Which of these boxers has the most troublesome style for Ali? Does Lewis have the edge due to his size and power, or is Larry's versatility and consistent jab the key to beating The Greatest?
Spit or split? . I see what you mean, though. I initially thought Lewis, but his lack of mobility(relative to Ali)hinders him. I'm barely leaning towards Holmes!
I agree, not sure Lennox could cut the ring off against Ali. I see him getting pecked to death and hoping he lands a big right which is always this close to landing.
Lewis for me, he would bring something different to the table. Holmes would trouble Ali greatly, but how about how much Ali would trouble Holmes? Two very similar fighters, but to my eyes Ali simply looks better. Holmes was fast, Ali was faster, Holmes moved well, Ali did it better, Holmes was durable, Ali even more so, and so on.
I think Ali right prior to exile is just too slick and too good for Holmes. I also think he'd beat Lewis too. I don't have much faith in either but Lewis' sheer size would present something Ali has never seen before. I also think he hits about as hard as anyone ever.
The men with the best chances against Ali are: 1. Joe Louis 2. Sonny Liston (prime, not the shell who fought Ali) 3. Jack Dempsey. Imo,he was the greatest swarmer of all time. 4. Joe Frazier 5. Holmes/Lewis
Obviously Lewis, he might not have the athleticism of Ali, but what he has is a whole lot better than Holmes. There is also the unquestionable difference in both size and power between him and Holmes. That said, if it is pre exile Ali I give Lennox very little chance. Post exile I'd make Lewis 6 - 4 favourite.
