im sure you would like me to belive that all one must do is win an Australian title to become a sucesss story, oh if only it was that easy CHB.

Cant you have a debate and tell me all the tent fighters who went on to become world champs? your half way there champ dont give up now Australian titles, ok close.. is that all you got champ?

Ron Richards was not a bad fighter Ty. Well, he was an Australian Champion anyway. He never won a world title- especially not IBO, WBF or WBA 'Interim'.... but, he was a reasonable fighter- even though he only won an Aussie Crown. Actually, he was Empire M/W champ also Actually, he was 3x Australian M/W Champ, 3x Australian H/W Champ and Australian light H/W Champ.

Richards also belted the **** out of Gus Lesnevich in Sydney. Gus who? Gus Lesnevich was the World Light Heavyweight Champion for 7 years. Only ONE world champ in those days, so holding a World Crown for 7 years ain't too bad. Yes, Richards belted the **** out of Gus Lesnevich.

Oh, Ron Richard also became the first man to take Archie Moore 12 rounds. Archie who? Well, Archie was World light H/W Champ from 1952-61.. he could also whack pretty hard, aparently... he did KO 129 men.. so, I guess he could whack. Well, Richards sat Archie on his arse for 9 seconds with the first right hand he threw. I guess Ronnie could punch also

Cerminara was willing to travel from Albury to Cessnock for a 3x1min amateur fight, I don't see why he wouldn't go to Brophy's tent to prove his point.

 

Now thats what im talking about. How often were fighters like this a product of Tent shows Bobby Sin? i would argue that the pickings are very slim compared to whats come out from the amateurs onto the world scene.

 

Careful with that beak of yours Ty , What about J Wilde & J Driscoll BOTH were World title holders who learn't their trade in Skerretts Tent fighting at least 250 tent fights each prior to a career in the pros , BOTH went on to HOLD WORLD TITLES . Both had spoken about the invaluable experience gained in the tent .

Ty, you're missing point. Tent boxing is not a breeding ground of champions.
It's where fighters go to have some fun.
Occasionally a bit of talent rears it's head & goes on to give the pro ranks a go, & occasionally they do well. But it's pasttime not a religion that threatens anything or anyone that doesn't arise in our day to day lives.

 

Jim Driscoll - fought in the 1900's but never won a world title as you claim. see below and see boxrec.

, but it is testimony to the fact that he was such an exceptional boxer that he has achieved legendary status. As he lost only 3 fights in his career it is also proof that he fought in an era where hunger and poverty produced fighters of rare quality.

Jimmy Wilde - fought in 1913, almost 100 years ago.. and did infact win a world title. Is there anyone else you can come up with , perhaps someone more recent? perhaps someone after the 1970s or after TV was invented?

 

thanks pops and i agree. Unfortunatly not eveyone will and as you can see guys like boxcon dont have a farkn clue. I never said it was the breeding ground of champions but blokes like boxcon would have me belive otherwise
