Obviously, Ali and Louis have the two best records, but who comes next? Who has a good top ten of fellow ATG, Hall of fame, champs, current contenders, and highly respected former contenders?
Uh, I don't know if I understood the question correctly. Marciano is certainly worth mentioning because of his 6 wins over 4 ATG boxers (Charles, Lewis, Moore and Walcott) as well as his undefeated career. Lewis defeated everyone he entered the ring with, and avenged his 2 losses. IMHO the Holyfield win over Bowe is also a big one.
Lewis - Vitali, Holyfield II, Ruddock, Golota, Mercer, Tua, Morrison, Rahman, Tucker and Bruno. His claim is strengthen if you include Holyfield 1 on the basis he clearly won on a fair scorecard.
Evander Holyfield. He won eight times over Lineal Heavyweight Champions (Past, Present, and Future): James Buster Douglas. George Foreman Larry Holmes Riddick Bowe Mike Tyson Mike Tyson Michael Moorer Hasim Rahman (Just in case counting Mike Tyson twice above is frowned on) Getting two or three more (Contender) wins to make ten (plus) I could add the following: Michael Dokes Ray Mercer John Ruiz Whatever anybody thinks of him, those are some pretty impressive scalps to have on your resume.
I didn't look at it this way, but that's how it is. Evander Holyfield has defeated 7 Lineal Heavyweight Champions (Past, Present, and Future): James Buster Douglas George Foreman Larry Holmes Riddick Bowe Mike Tyson Michael Moorer Hashim Rahman Muhammad Ali has defeated 5 Lineal Heavyweight Champions (Past and Present): Leon Spinks George Foreman Joe Frazier Floyd Patterson Sonny Liston Joe Louis has defeated 6 Lineal Heavyweight Champions: Jersey Joe Walcott Max Schmeling Jim Braddock Jack Sharkey Max Baer Primo Carnera
