The guy is an iconic figure with a fan base world wide. 150,000 buys in America against a guy who'd only made his HBO debut a couple of fights ago isn't the disaster some are so gleeful about.

150,000 people bought a 60$ fight where it was a Khazak/Canadian, a Canadian who was a 17-1 underdog and unknown to casuals.

That's an extra 7.5 million dollars.

That's with Golovkin not having any significant name on his record, debuting in U.S only 3 years ago, and having little promotion by HBO for the fight.

Is there any other nonamerican fighter outside Canelo, Cotto, and Pacquiao who could pull that many buys against a no-name opponent?

How about this, is there any AMERICAN fighter besides Mayweather who could pull those numbers by himself?

HBO giving it a single program plus a half hearted face-off was a shame. Still, the live gate was exceptional, the equivalent of at least another 50,000 PPV buys. A 20,000 plus crowd in a foreign country with no discernible Kazakh population is fantastic. Especially when you consider a certain 168-172 pound fighter can't sell out in his own home town.

so very true, but whatever, the idiots will still claim the bigger draw is the guy who last fought on a 3rd tier cable channel vs an out of shape domestic level SMW for 300K viewers

It's huge disaster when you had people saying it would do more than the PBF-Berto fight. What a way to spin it now.:patsch You had GGG fans here comparing this fight to Hagler-Hearns saying it would be that good. Just be real with yourself, 150K in buys is not good you guys overvalued GGG's popularity he's not the PPV star as of right now that you think he is. If he gets a fight with Canelo or Cotto next his dismal numbers in this fight will come back to haunt him at the negotiating table.:deal

I bet you do since you hyped up this farce and it's done less than 150K in buys some have the estimate much lower. I'm embarrassed for you.:rofl

Lemieux isn't really a bigger "name" than Chris Algieri and Pac vs Algieri had 300k buys. Relatively speaking it's not bad at all for a PPV debut. I'm pretty sure his next PPV fight will be much, much better considering this was, as much one sided as it was, one of the best fights (of this year) you could possibly give to average audience.

We tried telling you nuthuggers before the fight that it was a joke for a PPV but you GGG fans wouldn't listen, you went on and on about what a great match up this was too bad for you the rest of America didn't feel that way. Now the numbers are out and you're full of excuses. Admit you overvalued GGG's worth and move on.

Can we stop bringing up 150k until there's a legit source? FFS
