So apparently Derevyanchenko has an amateur record of 390-20 which is probably not completely accurate but his record is similar to GGG. With that many amateur fights under your belt you better be good so why is Derevyanchenko not anywhere near as spectacular as GGG? When Golovkin was his age he was miles better.
because its alot tougher at the professional level smaller gloves, 3 min rounds, 12 rounds, no head gear, etc. thats why zhou shiming wasnt **** at the pro level.

Excellent amateurs sometimes don’t transition well to the pros. Ring ability alone unfortunately isn’t enough to make it to the top in the pro ranks. GGG was extremely ambitious and shrewd, since he picked the right trainer and management to get him the fights and exposure he needed. Derevyanchenko admittedly is very skilled, but never seemed to be that ambitious as a pro and didn’t make the best choice in management, which failed to get him enough fights and ultimately limited his exposure. Angelo Dundee in a tv interview many years ago said that a less talented amateur that is extremely ambitious and has a good head on their shoulders tends to go a lot farther than a highly decorated amateur that lacks ambition and doesn’t carefully pick a good team.
