what makes an over rated fighter or an under rated fighter in boxing? I always hear people saying this mans over rated and wat not but they dont actually evaluate the fighter or the accomplishments they just lable the dude. I gona give amir khan as an example. people call him "over hyped/ over rated" but they dont realise that when he achieves his goal that he is no longer over rated. they sed hes a glass jaw world level fighter. so he got KTFO and won a world champion. but there was never a large group who said he was P4P or anything therefore hes not over rated, but the hype is there becuz he has like 60% casual boxin fans backing him. meanwhile people say williams is "under rated" but he gets credit for everyone of his accomplishements and they are aknowledged, like his margo win and wink win. so why are these words thrown around in the most stupidest places on this forum. there was a guy saying that muhammed ali over under rated a few weeks ago :rofl:rofl
People now use them as an indicator of quality instead of what it should be, which is to measure the amount of credit the media and fans give fighters. In a Liston vs Tyson debate, someone told me that Liston had "underrated" speed as a response to Tyson being said to be faster. Well, that's all well and good, but that "underrated" speed was still slower than Tyson. In the current context, all those terms do is mislead people. That's why we now have the phenomenon of people getting rated higher than they should with the reasoning given that they're "underrated". In Paul Williams' case, he was rated in the top 10 P4P and people were still calling him "underrated" even as some outlets had him as high as top 3 P4P. The bottom line is, when people cite someone as over and underrated, it's absolutely pointless unless they point out the source doing the under or over rating. Those terms should be a measure of hype and credit, not of the fighter themselves.
Over rated: Rating > Resume, accomplishments Under rated: Rating < Resume, accomplishments Over rated: Joe Calzaghe Why: people act as if he is one of the greatest when his resume is pretty weak. Under rated: Jermain Taylor he was over rated, but since he got KTFO everyone saying he is bull****, and Ward will beat him easily, i dont noe but he is a decent boxer.
Underrated is when you get to feel smug by having a crush on a boxer that, obviously, no one else is smart enough to 'get.' Overrated is when you feel burned by the boxer having a huge win or loss and now everyone else is suddenly an expert on him. I hated Kellerman before it was "cool." David Diaz is still horribly underrated. No one else understands Vic Drakulich the way I do.
overrated. Dirrell, Paul Williams, Erdei, khan, mosley underrated. Ricky Hatton (cos he lost to pac and floyd the best 2 fighters on the planet everyone has wrote him off) kevin mitchell, bika, donaire
just to clear this matter up. khan got found out by a puncher in prescott. since then he has been hand picked powder punchers apart from barrerra who was just too old. dirrell, well i heard so much hype from americans when i had seen little of him, dirrell himself talked a good game before the fight but i was unimpressed with what i saw. also hes in the super 6 but name 1 good fighter he has beaten? mosley i meant to mention that he is overrated to the extent that floyd and pac are scarred to fight him. dont take this the wrong way just my opinion and i am not saying he isnt or hasnt been a great fighter but i just feel he is overrated at where his game is at now.
1. Cotto beat Mosley 2. A great but much smaller Pacman easily beat Cotto. 3. You don't understand it and think Mosley is a top fighter. =equals : OVERRATED
I don't think i have seen anyone rate Erdei on here before he usually gets ripped to bits. Bika is overrated on here imo anytime the guy gets brought up people think he will be a champ.
