Does this have any bearing about how the posters on here think a fight between them would pan out? In boxing, they always said don't judge how fighter A did against fighter B when trying predict an outcome against fighter C. Nevertheless, although Fedor dispatched Rogers with a huge right hand strike in round 2 - he still suffered what appeared to be a broken nose. Rogers got top position at one point and was raining down strikes on the Russian legend. To his credit Fedor came back in the next round and won the fight in thrilling fashion. Overeem, on the other hand, absolutely and utterly dominated Rogers systematically destroying him with what looked to be very little effort exerted. I don't think Rogers even landed one strike. Overeem appears to be much less vulernable force than he was a few years ago. I saw a brief clip of he and Fedor grappling from what looked to be about 2004 or so. Emeilianko looked stronger and seemed to be throwing the Reem around a bit. Today, I would have to say that Overeem is the stronger man of the two. But Fedor still has that innate bear-like russian strength. Anyway, my question to the forum is did anyone having seen both men against Rogers change their opinion about how a fight between Fedor and Overeem would end up?
Two different types of fighters. Fedor's been doing his thing at heavy as a undersized heavyweight against top opposition for a long time. Overeem has conversely grown into a devastating heavy with serious heavyweight power. Overeem ragdolled Rogers. But the ending when Fedor KO'ed Rogers was equally as devastating. I dont think its a good barometer though to measure them by. Overeem although no slouch on the mat WILL be at a disadvantage vs Fedor. Likewise Fedor will be at a disadvantage standing. This is what makes the fight so compelling. Additionally Fedor has lost a step and his inactivity may hurt him. Genuine 50/50 fight for me. Ironic as if it had taken place 5 years ago Fedor would have torn Overeem to pieces literally.
Yes, the Overeem and Fedor of their respective Pride days would have been a mismatch. It would be nice if we could take the prime Fedor of 2002 to 2006 say and match THAT Fedor against the Overeem of today. I would still order a ppv of this fight for any price. They could have Mr. Rogers vs Captain Kangaroo on the undercard for five straight fights and I would still pay $100 on my cable bill to watch this fight.
Completely different fighters and fights. It has no bearing other than to show that Reem demolished a big fighter with power who ko'd a good fighter in Arlovski and gave Fedor a competative fight.
