Overeem is very beatable!

Disagree with this thread and most of the posters in it. Ubereem is as close to unbeatable as you can get. He wont lose for years. And you can all laugh at me if i'm wrong

People need to quit bringing up fights that happened years ago before Reem had Ubered up. We're talking two completely different animals

 

He's notable wins are Hunt Rogers and Kharitnonov. When they were considered serious opponents and Rogers was even ranked at 10th in the world. He is also the SF DREAM and K-1 champion. I think he's talent is pretty clear to see as his potential. If you're going to judge him on the basis of his career at 205 then im going to say you dont have an argument either.
As theres no way in hell anyone would have considered Overeem vs Fedor a 50/50 fight less than 7 years ago. Much less a sane bout for Overeem who was back then getting ragdolled by the likes of Liddell and Rua. Can you imagine if those bouts took place now?

No. There's only one man who has looked and consistently fought in an "unbeatable" fashion and thats Fedor. His 10 year run will NEVER be duplicated in MMA much less against the quality of opponents he fought.
Overeem looks the part and fights the part. But he doesnt have wins the way Fedor was literally tearing men apart in PRIDE.

 

Think of it less as a traditional tournament and more a diagram explaining traditional US MMA matchmaking. Overeem/Werdum is the title fight, Silva/Fedor the number one contender's fight with the winners meeting in another title fight. The other side of the bracket gives a fringe contender two wins to cement themselves as a genuine contender before challenging towards the end of 2011/early 2012. In theory it means you should get three big title fights although the risk is that the final one is something of anti-climax.

Of course the commissions indirectly stopping Strikeforce to put the title on the line kinda undermines those plans.

 

Perhaps not as big as Overeem/Fedor if it happens but I'd say given the guys on the "other" side of the draw whoever comes though that likely won't have won a couple of dull fights.

 

I've said the same thing. Alistair is a fighter who's had ups and downs his entire career. Every time he's on one of his hot swings people tend to overrate the hell out of him. He then loses, usually in very unimpressive fashion, and is written off by almost everyone yet again. The same is sure to happen sometime in the near future. He just lacks the consistency and stamina to hold onto this recent hype. It's not like he's even beaten any top Heavyweights in the first place to deserve this newfound praise.

The last time he had this kind of hype around him (although not even this big, to be honest) was when he was fighting at Lt. Heavy and coming off back to back guillotine victories over stars like Belfort and Vovchanchyn. He's recently dusted off Todd Duffee and Brett Rogers. Take a seat, sip on a nice, warm glass of reality and come to your senses, people.

Hunt - Record of 5-7... and this is one of his top 3 most notable wins, even according to you.

Rogers - Coming off of a brutal knockout loss to Fedor. I said from day one that this guy was extremely overated, and wasn't even close to being a top 10 fighter in the world. That's just silly. His entire career was riding off of his destruction of Andrei Arlovski... which seems to be par for the course lately in AA's career.

Kharitonov - Good win against a good fighter. However, Kharitonov came back in the rematch and knocked Overeem out.

Honestly, that's not very impressive. Of course he is talented guy, and he looks really good fighter lesser opposition. We have all seen him lose against the best fighter that he ever fought... repeatedly. Of course... he has now superhumanly blown up into a much bigger man. However, since doing so he still hasn't beaten anybody that would lead me to believe that all of the sudden he's the best in the world, or even close.

 

Yeah you could be onto something there about Hunt... I recall in his previous fight him nearly beating Fedor by Kimura. I also recall his successful tenure in the K-1 as well as being one of the top ranked fighters at heavy in PRIDE. :roll: If stats is "how" your backing up your argument then why dont you call out Coleman or Couture who's record's are barely .500

Rogers was ranked in the top 10 at heavy. You dont have a point. If you think he's overrated then fine. But thats YOUR opinion and clearly not a consensus as he wouldn't have been ranked in the top 10 if he was overrated would he.. Shame everyone cant fight to your lofty standard. Lesnar beats Couture. You're ready to jump on the bandwagon. Rogers beats AA former UFC champ but somehow Rogers is overrated when he's only losses are to Fedor and Overeem who just happen to be two of the best heavys in the world. Stunning logic.

Khartinov KO'ed Overeem. Again so what? You asked for notable wins. I gave you them. Overeem dominated Kharitonov when they fought the first time and kneed his face to **** in his FIRST fight at heavy.

We can all sit here and dissect a fighters career ledger. But as far as im concerned you dont even have a point.
I have never once said he is the best in the world. And i have never said he is unbeatable. But i am willing to recognise he's significant achievements as a light heavy who has moved to heavy which are unparalleled. Even at heavy they are unparalleled by any of his peers bar Fedor who has held multiple belts. You on the other hand are rankling the point, meandering from one topic to the next and then using stupid maths to back up your argument.

 

I think reketdnevets posted a pretty good analysis of Overeem's record against top MMA fighters. Need to find that and repost it here - because as much as I would love for Overeem to take the top spot in the heavyweight division - he has continually fallen short in his career against top MMA competition. In fact - being matched up with Werdum was the worst thing that could happen to him because he's not even going to make it through the first round of the tournament. Werdum will submit him again.

 

Be prepared to eat crow. Make sure you book mark this post. I know i will be. While your at go and watch their first bout. Overeem held his own on the mat until the second round.

 

You keep talking about where people were "ranked" as if that is proof of their worth. As if people are improperly ranked all of the time.

Rodgers earned that top 10 ranking after beating Arlovski ( who was just brutally knocked out by Fedor and hasn't won a fight since)... and then being knocked out by Fedor? Really? He hasn't done anything to even be considered for a top ranking in the World.

You refuse to deal with reality. Lesnar was ranked by most as the #1 Heavyweight in the World when he lost to Cain. Was that a correct ranking? Was Lesnar really the best in the world? Of course not.
