I wouldn'r say he outstuck him on their feet. He may have landed more but nothing that hurt or caused damage. I did like that one knee Overeem landed to drop Werdum in the second other then that neither guy was impressive. As for the takedowns, I agree takedowns are overrated but the fact remains takedowns are scored by judges and whether they are weak or not followed up the judges still count them.

Thing with Overeem is he doesn't have the intangibles. All of his improvements are completely due to his physical strength, he doesn't have the mind of a champion. The Reem that fought Werdum last night gets worn out and stopped against Silva probably. He needs to drop about ten pounds.
Overeem didn't throw any kicks for fear of being taken down, he would not have that fear with a boxer and would smash a boxers legs off. With that said a boxer would definately out strike him in the fisticuffs department.
You're right, it would be hard to determine how well he would do against a boxer. Boxers aren't versed in kicking, and kneeing; and Overeem looks to cover and run when you open up on him.
True and he's 'the man' by default, not by merit in my book. As Ive said it could ha been just a bad night for Overeem, but until he puts in a quality performance against a 10 ten HW I just cant rate him very highly
Agreed. It's time for him to shine full part. Although a clash of styles like that considering where Overeems career is in terms of significance was never going to yield a classic match up.
Im not blaming Reem entirely for last night, as you said it was a clash of styles that hinders each others game plan not complemented it. Werdum did himself no favours in the way he tried to pull guard constantly. But I think that he outstruck Alistair for periods will hurt Reems rep a whole lot more, and definitely marked him down in my top 10 personally Im beginning to seriously dislike HW fights these days. Apart from Big Foot/Werdum v Fedor I cant remember the last time I really enjoyed one. The last 2 UFC title matches has basically been who gasses 1st with Lesnar going 1-1 in that department,Josh and JDS have been coasting, Cains injured, and Brett and Andre should seriously consider new careers
Agreed. It was almost as though Overeem thought he could stalk him into defeat. That said Werdum made his TDD look par excellent. Can't believe that in modern MMA Werdum would resort to such ridiculous tactics. As for Brett he will continue to be exposed when he fights at this level. Granted he's lost to 3 of the VERY best this sport has ever had to offer. No shame there in my opinion.
Brett Rogers entire credentials was based on knocking out Arlvoski. He fought good against Fedor, but Fedor has been stuggling in every fight for a while now. Even Mark Hunt and that giant Korean freak with no experiance had really good moments against Fedor early. I believe Rogers was quite a bit over-rated. Barnett had a much easier opponent to be fair. Unless you are glass jawed like Arlovski.
I don't think anyone over rated Rogers. The one thing Rogers possesses is very heavy hands which will always make him dangerous. That though is where it ends. It must be taken into account though the depth of his recent opposition. There's no shame in losing to guys like that.
Are you seriously suggesting Werdum did what it takes to defeat someone? Werdum may have defeated Overeem if he actuall stopped flopping around the ground. That strategy does not work in todays MMA. The judging doesn't allow for it and the fighters aren't gonna fall prey to that as much as they used too. Especially when Werdum pulled the same thing in his very last fight and beat Fedor with it. To me that was the biggest mistake Werdum made. Werdum only has himself to blame and you running around trying to prove otherwise only shows how biased you are against Overeem.
I'm sorry for my bias against the great Overeem. Overeem was clearly a beast last night. Overeem dominated Werdum on his feet, and showed what a world class striker he is. Overeem is lock for the tournament now. Everyone else may as well stay home.
All of yours are. I'm sure you think Overeem was exhibiting a great defense there. Just setting Werdum up for the kill.
