He looked flat and just not in it. Anyway, Big Foot Silva may be the guy to beat in the tourney.

    Passive-aggresive.

Don't put words in my mouth never once did I say that nor did I say he even looked good last night, but according to you Werdum won and looked great in the striking and ground game. I for one saw a very passive Werdum who, if he didn't lack the courage to stay standing could have won the fight. I for one have already stated as you so purposely forgot to mention, don't care who wins the tourney. I like all the fighters involved. I enjoy every last one of them from the get go. That includes Werdum, Arlovsky and Fedor. The only fighter I have never cared for was Rogers.

    When did I say that?

    Again stop talking for me.

I say what I mean and don't hide behind an agenda. You sound like a child and I'm done talking to you about anything. If people want to know what I think they will read the posts I wrote, they don't need your help in translating them, especially since you are a poor translator and can't get it straight.

You're the one that took one of my posts, put it in quotations, and edited it; and you want to get all pissy about being mistranslated.

I've put all the gifs I can find of the fight in a thread. There all taken out of context, so make of them what you will:

I was commenting on all the gifs not editing them. Next time I will make sure I specifically tell you what I am doing so your simple mind can conprehend what is happening in the real world.

Also I don't need to open 3 different threads to see you spamming them with the same thing repeatedly. I think we can all see your agenda there is no need to continue, we get it.

I just love an MMA fan. Werdum beats Fedor, everybody goes absolutely crazy over it and chat **** about Fedor, then Overeem comes along and people fondle his balls up until this fight, where he actually avenges a loss and beats Werdum and suddenly Overeem ain't top dog no more.

I mean, I haven't sat down and watched the fight yet, but people seem so ****ing quick to shut a guy down after one fight. To me, it sounds like Werdum was the Dirrell in this fight.

Overeem did seem somewhat gun shy towards the end of the fight. Which i think is mainly because he was gassed. That said Werdum made no attempt to make a fight other than to pull guard consistently and have his shoddy take down attempts stuffed. Anti climatic performance from Overeem but this was very much Werdum's fault in my eyes as well as a clear clash of styles.

Well he'd be ****ing stupid to dive into Werdum's guard anyway. It's very poor tactics from Werdum, relying on his guard due to the Fedor fight. Really? That's your gameplan? And what if the guy just doesn't want to risk it?

Pretty terrible gameplan tbh, what was Overeem meant to do?

Well said Flash Jab. A rather laughable display from online fans who once again show the fickleness of a particularly indecisive bi-polar teenage girl with too many life choices. As someone who holds no torch for this field - indeed has been ridiculed on this forum for suggesting that the UFC has a heavyweight division equal to the fighters in this tournament - I think people are being absurdly quick to rubbish Overeem.

It was a bad clash of styles with very specialized fighters cancelling each other out - it happens at all weight classes and in all combat sports. Werdum certainly deserves the blame for the way the fight turned out - he came in with a stupid gameplan that basically consisted of telegraphed takedowns and incredibly telegraphed prat falls. The latter tricked Fedor but you weren't going to pull the same trick off so soon afterwards, especially after boasting about it for at least six months. Nobody could look good against such tactics.

Overeem stuffed every Werdum fight and until he tired out did so with authority. In the first round he was literally chucking Werdum around like a rag doll. Too soon to judge whether that's an impressive level of takedown defense as Werdum's never been known for his great wrestling, but its certainly better than Antonio Silva's who was taken down and controlled by the man 'gifted' to Overeem.

Overeem's two great strengths in striking is his Muay Thai in the clinch and his ability to put together high quality power combinations, he could do neither in this fight. The first because it would be stupid to engage for long in the clinch with a fighter so determined to pull guard at every opportunity. The second because whenever he landed a strike Werdum took a pro-wrestling bump off it. How can Overeem set up any combination, let alone look good standing, if his opponent is looking for a chance to fall to the ground?

And too many people seem to be expecting Overeem's striking to look as fluid as it did in K-1. That's idiotic. Nobody worried about giving up the takedown can strike with complete freedom, not even a world class kickboxer. How many times do we see wrestlers in the UFC do surprisingly well standing against better technical strikers because the latter is preoccupied with maintaining the correct stance for optimum takedown defense? Even despite all this, Overeem clearly outstruck Werdum in the first two rounds and even in the third was timing Werdum well, landing counterpunches and knees.

This is very much like Georges St. Pierre vs Jake Shields. A boring fight largely caused by the favorite not wanting to go to the ground against a fighter whose only route was a submission. Overeem kept the fight comfortably on the feet in the first half of the fight and showed fine defensive grappling in the second half to avoid being caught in a submission. Now if Werdum was as good as everybody said before this fight then that's surely something worth celebrating?

But no we get an insane level of buyer's remorse from those who bought into the hype surrounding the first man to beat the greatest heavyweight fighter in the world and the baddest man on the planet who would clown Velasquez or Dos Santos. The fact is that we learnt that Overeem does indeed have the takedown defense and defensive grappling to overcome non-NCAA wrestlers such as Silva and Barnett. I suppose we also learned that Werdum lacks the wrestling to consist against elite fighters and will always struggle against those he cannot get to the ground - but those of us not blinded by Fedor's sloppy lapse of concentration already knew that.

And Overeem will beat Silva. He will be able to use movement to make Silva look flat footed, staying away from the giant's power and just as he did against Werdum managing to avoid the trap that snared Fedor.

they both deserve as much criticism and the fight should have been a draw or a No Contest. That's the way I see it.

Werdum couldn't get a single takedown, pulled guard all the time and was extremely lazy getting back up.

Overeem refused to go to the ground and didn't do much in the stand up.

    Winner: No one!!!!

You should have commented on the gifs without doing inside quotation tags. I wouldn't have even given a ****, if you hadn't starting crying about being mistranslated. You are indeed a fool if you somehow see those gifs and think Werdum is not landing the better strikes. If you want to somehow turn that footage into something complimentary for Overeem, then I'm sorry; I don't want to "conprehend."

It's two different threads, and I only made the 2nd thread so I could include all of the positive footage of Overeem that I could.

What's this about an agenda? If you mean that I think that Werdum won a shitty fight, and am voicing my opinion, then yeah... I'm pushing my agenda. It would be different if Overeem actually did something while Werdum wasn't working his calisthenic program. In between all the flops, Werdum was winning the little spurts of stand up action that occurred. Overeem lost the 1st and 3rd rounds clearly.

My favourite part of this fickleness is the fact that before all this, people had Werdum at #1 (those who were too anti-UFC to support their fighters, mostly) and most were saying Overeem wasn't tested and would come undone when he'd be given an elite opponent. Then he gets Werdum, the guy who slayed the Last Emperor, beats him (and a win over Werdum is impressive, no matter how crap the fight was) and who do people pick to win this?

...Bigfoot Silva or Barnett. Right-o, good luck with that one lads. :good

I will say this though, I don't think Overeem's K-1 class stand up is elite as people think it is. Despite his experience, I don't believe he's as good on his feet as Cain and possibly JDS. He gets hit, and while he's got some brutal muay thai, I don't think he's indestructible. I could definitely see Cain or JDS taking him out. I'm basing this mostly on the fight I saw with him against Tyrone Spong.
