I havn't seen enough of Cervantes to offer up an informed opinion on whether I think his power is overlooked.
Good point, and thats what makes him Gatti :happy but the blood and guts reputation means his actual talent is overlooked slightly. He boxed beautifully in both Patterson fights and stuck to a gameplan very well
Cristian Mijares' now increased incorporation of body-punching. In particular shots to the liver. It's evident in the Topo Rosas fight, where over the course of the fight he significantly slowed down a relentless pressure fighter, who is/was highly ranked, over the course of the fight. He can be pretty subtle with it, a lot of the time he'll get his head on the opponent's shoulder/chest to make it nigh on impossible for the guy to counter.
I reember somebody mentioning it before and thought it was a great shout, Pacquiao's feinting. He does utilise it to the full, and it's how he's torn fighters apart before, De La Hoya in particular. The amount of times he was able to feint, make Oscar go one way, and then fire up the middle with the left was crazy. Granted, DLH was way past his best, but he wouldn't have been opened up to the same extent IMO.
Shane Mosley's ring IQ. People mostly think it's more non-existant than anything else, and based on his last few displays (shut-outs to the Pacman and Floyd, decidedly poor outings vs Mora and a shot Mayorga) that view is understandable. But when you watch his older fights, particularly against Oscar De La Hoya (I) you can see that he's most definetely not as inept in the ring as some claim him to be. In that particular fight, he turned southpaw and threw his jab from that stance while staying on his toes and moving, to stay out of Oscar's range, whilst using his superior speed to beat De La Hoya to the punch. It also allowed his to stay out of the way of De La Hoya's money punch, the left hook. By staying out of range, and harm, whilst sustaining a pretty effective offence of his own, Mosley won a comfortable decision, handing Oscar his only clear cut loss until 4 years later (The Hopkins KO).
SHane was not completely clueless. He made the most out of his average feet and 'straight on' style. Sheer class, last time out he showed he is absolutely done. Shane does not constantly evade.
Some folk have the perception that he wasn't overly intelligent in the ring because of his rematches with Forrest and Wright (not doing too much different and clearly losing to both, even though the rematches were marginally closer than the first encounters).
Shane was an athletic gunslinger, he wouldn't have gotten as far as he did if he didn't have some brains behind his work.
I have always perceived both Wright and Forrest as big guys and ****in' horrible matchups for lots of people ;-)
