Overrated or just a bad day

Some fighters are overrated but I think that the word is overused. Its like if any fighter suddenly losses in a fight where he is a favourite then he is overrated all of the sudden. If he gets knocked out than he automatically has a glass chin. What happened to just having a bad day or styles makes fights etc.

If Pac losses against Mayweather then he will be recognized as overrated froud by most people and if floyd losses he would suffer the same faith.

And bonus question: Are there any fighter that the majority in here likes? There are a lot of pac, floyd, roy, pavlik, calzaghe-haters etc. But is there a boxer that is likeable by most?

Really? He seems like a great guy. But with 4 losses out of the 5 last, he should be a very easy subject for the haters

Styles do make fights, but the problem is that everyone thinks their fighter has the tools to overcome anything, hahaha. In retrospect after the emotions ebb BOTH fighter's greatness usually becomes clear.

I don't think many people dislike the more non-vocal fighters. How can you hate guys like Manny, Cotto, etc... What ends up as beef between fans turns into fighter hate, hahaha!

theres no such thing as a bad day on a superfight....the other guy gets all credit.....
did spinks have an off day vs tyson? after 31 straight wins? holyfield vs lewis 1? no...lewis just beat him.... too much time and effort and training goes into a fight of this magnitude to use an "off day" as an excuse...doesnt fly

I completly agree. Those who play sports on regular basis know. Before every basketball game I follow routine, I eat light and healthy foods, stretch out and jog but some days I am full of energy and sometimes I lack energy for unknown reason. Same could happen to me in the ring, no matter how good preparation I could come out flat.

I agree with most of what you had to say, but it depends on how they lose when it comes down to if Pac or Floyd will be viewed as overrated. If Pac gets beat thoroughly like JMM did, then yeah, a lot of people will say he was overrated after all. If Floyd wins, but it's close like the De La Hoya fight, Manny shouldn't lose any props. If Pacquiao KO's Floyd, rest assured people will say Mayweather has no chin, because it would be the first time anyone has seen him really hurt.

It's all bull**** though, no matter what, people will think whatever they want to think, for better or for worse.

    Depends on the result.

Dimitry Salita could have had a bad day, got caught early, etcetera - think of JMM when he fought Pac, went down three times early but came back to actually be quite dominant in the later stages.

If the result is 12 rounds of getting your ass kicked and being powerless to stop it - no such thing as a bad day.

you are right overrated is used to much, but I think it is used right after a loss, then people come to thier senses. About the bad day thing, Ray Leonard always said in boxing you cannot have a bad day, and it is almost true.

Never seen Pac, Hopkins, Mayweather have off nights ... Hopkins has lost 5 fights and all of them were fairly close ... the thing with fighters who are consistant is that even when they lose they don't have an off night.

Pac will get praised win or lose and so will Floyd ... no matter what you can't take anything away from any fighter.

Pacquiao is amazing ... this man had no amateur background, turned pro at 16 and has won titles in 7 different divisions (4 legitimate titles)
    Thats amazing !!
I'm sure if he had turned pro around 20-21 (along with some amateur experience) we might be looking at a clash between two undefeated 5 or 6 time champions.
