...here are some performances certain fighters get major props for, but in my opinion, TOO much props.

    Roy Jones KO1 Montell Griffin

This is Jones' supposed "revenge" fight. The return (or was it first appearance) of his "RJ" alter ego. Now, I might catch some hell for this, but hear me out. Watch closely. Pay attention to how many times Griffin hits Jones vs how many times Jones hit Griffin. Yes, Griffin went down twice. The first time, it was a balance issue, and the second time, well, it was a good shot. I'm not saying this wasn't an impressive win, but it's not as eye-popping a victory as people make it out to be. Griffin seemed more out of sorts than anything else. Had he been calm, he could've caught Roy while he was throwing those wide left hook, or just give him a tough time like he did in the first fight. Jones looked sloppy, and over anxious, not sharp and accurate. Griffin should - and could have exploited that.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. RTD6 Arturo Gatti

This is one a lot of people might agree with me on. Yes, Floyd looked spectacular, but...it was Gatti. Gatti was 39-6, had been in several battles, and let's face it...he wasn't even remotely close to being in Mayweather's league. This was like an NBA team against a D II college team. How much of an mismatch this was is reflected in the apathetic tone in Roy Jones' voice.

    Sergio Martinez W12 Kelly Pavlik

We know now that Pavlik had some serious issues around the time this fight happened, yet he still managed to keep the fight somewhat close. The Pavlik that faced Jermaine Taylor (either time) would have beaten Martinez. Martinez got hit a lot, and was even in danger of losing to a guy who wasn't all there. I think Martinez is overrated altogether, but the props people who aren't in the know give him for this performance...:-(

I have a few more, but I'll wait for some responses before I post. I'll give you the chance to catch your breath, agree or disagree. Feel free to post your own.

Griffin no longer had Futch in his corner as well, among some misc out of the ring issues I believe with his team.

    Froch vs Abraham:

Froch punches a punch bag with an appalling work rate for 12 rounds, and apparently produces a boxing clinic that laid the blue print for Ward to beat Abraham.

I no I'm probably gonna get slated on here, but Dirrell's performance against Froch was very very overrated. Loads on here thought he was outright robbed by the judges, when in reality he did laps for 12 rounds and it was a very close fight which could have gone either way.

Add Mosley vs Margarito. Jin Mosley would've beaten Margarito that night, for obvious reasons.

Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Jose Luis Castillo II

Mayweather fans seem to think this was one of the great performances where a great fighter emphatically beat down a guy that he'd had trouble with in a previous fight, much like the executions produced by Roberto Duran (2nd & 3rd fights with Esteban deJesus) or Pernell Whitaker (2nd fight with Jose Luis Ramirez).

In reality, Floyd realized after the 1st fight that he couldn't outfight Castillo, so basically spent 12 rounds with the crowd booing his tactics, which consisted of jogging backwards and flicking out jabs, trying to avoid engaging as much as possible and run the clock down in the process. I had it to Floyd by 4 points, simply because there were too many rounds where Castillo couldn't catch him, but it was a hugely disappointing, underwhelming and unimpressive peformance from Mayweather on a night that was set up for him to shine and prove his greatness.

Yeah .... I mean Mosley's speed and power advantage and Margarito using his head to block punches had nothing to do with it. Margarito lost because of the gap in skill between the two fighters.

I'm kinda on the fence on that one. I don't think I'd call it an overrated victory...not really. Margarito was just a rock to Mosley's paper. Many fighters have won big fights purely on stylistic reasons. This doesn't necessarily mean that the fight should be considered overrated.

Distracted by the handwraps thing? Meh. I don't think minor issues carry that much weight once the fight gets going.

To be fair, most boxing fans judge this win correctly. Mayweather was a heavy favourite going into the fight and did his reputation justice but honestly, FMJ - Gatti is one of the most humiliating, one-sided beat-downs in boxing history. Mayweather looks ridiculously bad-ass in annihilating Gatti it actually turned me into a fan.

Didn't FMJ break virtually all CompuBox records that night?

I disagree, after his fight with kessler everyone said Froch was so flawed and open to punches that would turn his lights out, and based on abrahams power he would eventually catch him with how froch fought and win the fight, sure he got beat by direll but he is really fast and in the end abraham was taking the fight to direll, him ko'ing the flawed froch was a very certain possibility, the odds were pretty even as well.
But instead of that happening froch schooled him for 12 rounds and showed he is very much capable of operating on top level and isnt the caveman people made him out to be beforehand.
