I'd really like one of you to explain to me what you mean by "raw power". Are you talking about static strength? In which case, determining the hardest punchers should be relatively easy; just find the guys with the biggest squat/benchpress/deadlift totals et voila, there you have it. Or are you talking about something else here?
Of late I'd say Wlad. Which isn't to say that he isn't a heck of a puncher, but too many people talk about him as if he could knock any heavyweight out cold if he only hit them flush.
If he does hit right with his left hook I'd say it'd knock most heavyweights out ever. The thing is that it isn't that special. Lewis could do the same to some degree, a full left hook from Tyson to the liver could also easily crumble anyone if you didn't expect it coming, overhand right from Eric Esch could also KO anyone.
This thread was made for Marciano. A heavy puncher, no doubt, but a who chased his opponents down and beat then up before turning the final key. Much more an attrition guy.
George's power I can understand, since he was so lacking in other aspects yet still knocked fools out and did so until late into his career when whatever speed and technique he once possessed had gone to the dogs. Shavers could only knock guys out when he landed flush on them, and not even then. You get all these people saying how crappy a finisher he was, hence bigging up his "raw power" and conveniently excusing his inability to put guys away, yet the fact of the matter was he caught plenty of opponents about as flush as can be and still failed to put a number of them away.
Just everyone ignore the comments from Ali who fought Frazier Foreman Liston Lyle etc and called Shavers the hardest puncher. As well as the ones from Lyle and Holmes. And suddenly he dosen't seem that great...right? atsch
Uhm okeyy? -Ali... His being old didn't make him loose his pain receptors did it?? -Holmes... Yeah he won the fight, i didn't know that if you won the fight the power in the punch that knocked you down dosen't count thats pretty cool :thumbsup. Lyle... Oh k once again if you win the power of the punch dosen't count good reasoning :good Norton... So this time i guess if your knocked out in one round from two guys and the guy knocked out by both of the guys said Shavers hit harder even though Cooney gave him more of a beating and it was an older Norton then the quote dosen't count and yu give the white guy the benefit of the doubt...right :think
That's true I really don't know why you said Walcott wanted to stay down though? He was pissed tried to get the fight overturned in court etc for a short count.
