Being old (and shot) affects your legs, which affects your ability to roll with a punch. Ali was taking full force blows from Shavers which he wouldn't have taken earlier in his career, and yet he still wasn't knocked down. His opinions on the fight are flawed, however much he may believe them. Holmes can say what he likes, but the fact of the matter is it was Tyson who knocked him out, not Shavers. I didn't know that the fighter who stops you is somehow a lesser puncher than the fighter who merely knocks you down. Regarding Norton I go with Cooney being the harder puncher because he demonstrated that in the fight, not because he was a white guy (whatever you're insinuating there). The fact that Norton was marginally older than he was vs Shavers might hold some weight if you accepted the same state of affairs for the Ali Shavers fight. But you won't, because you want to prop up your delusions. That's cool. Don't think you hold any position of authority on the matter though.
Because he didn't hit with accuracy, he would just kinda throw his punch and hope it landed. I mean we can't say much none of us got hit by Shavers right? It can't just be a coincidence that all these guys that fought punchers say Shavers hit hardest... Together the guys that fought Shavers and said he hit the hardest have fought -George Foreman x2 -Joe Frazier x3 -Sonny Liston x2 (once really the 2 Ali fights ) -Gerry Cooney x2 Feel like im forgetting some but still my point
No he didn't. Stop propagating this ****. Here's a HL of Shavers. Tell me where he doesn't get a full flush shot on his opponent and badly hurt them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oVgH6sIBuc And if he just threw his punch out there with his slowness, inaccuracy and zero setup then what does that say about the era he fought in that he was able to catch so many top fighters in the first place?

What if Lennox and Briggs claimed that Vitali Klitschko was the hardest puncher they ever fought, would you believe them? Between them, these two alone have fought the who's who of heavyweight punchers of the last twenty years. (they both did, by the way.)
KO ing another world class fighter is a tall, tall order, especially doinf it in a few punches.. Shavers hit like mule kicks but he wasnt the best finisher and gassed himself often. If enough guys who have been in the same ring say it is so, you might as well accept it.
Quote's there in writing. Now as the 39-year-old Klitschko prepares to defend his linear WBC belt against Odlanier Solis, Cubas 2004 Olympic champion here tonight, Lewis says: 'That was my hardest fight against the strongest opponent and hardest puncher I faced.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ot...lls-David-Haye-Vitali-Klitschko-man-beat.html Again, he still uttered the quote. Therefore it can legitimately be used to support a case for Vitali's punching power. Then you have Adamek who claimed that Arreola was the hardest puncher he'd ever fought. Or what about Danny Williams who claimed Charr for that role (supposedly). Shavers himself claimed that Tex Cobb hit him with the hardest shot he ever felt. If you're going to believe one, then you have to believe them all. Which would make you a very confused bunny indeed.
With any degree of accuracy? No. Only reliable way to assess punching power is by having boxers punch an accurate PSI machine under controlled conditions. Even then it's not clear cut.
So you say this is the only way to test whos the hardest puncher yet you say confidently that Shavers is not the hardest puncher
I'm saying there isn't enough to back up Shavers's position as such. Estimating anyone's punching power is always going to be a guessing game, but with Shavers you have to do more guessing than most. Else take as gospel the words of numerous fighters who failed to get stopped by him.
Well i mean going off what Ali, Holmes, Norton, Lyle said is a pretty good list to go through. But yeah i guess we'll never know
Julian Jackson left people twitching on the canvas. I don't care if he was fighting his grandmother, that doesn't detract from the damage his punches did when they landed.
