Quite a few of the fighters you have mentioned aren't overrated.

Out of the Scouse ones which I know more about Liam Smith, Dodson and also locally Steve Williams have done well considering there limited abilities.

Depends whether we're talking about actual boxing fans or the general public.

I'd personally say Tyson Fury is the most generally underrated fighter in the country, ever time you read a news article, the comments underneath say he is a bum and has never fought anyone etc. When in reality he is arguably a top 5 in the world heavyweight already at such a young age.

    Ovil McKenzie
    Nathan Cleverly
    Martin Murray
    Kevin Mitchell
    Kid Galahad

  4. Its fair to say williams and smith have overachieved with their abilities.Like i said im not questioning the huge desire these people must have. But williams at british title level looked massively out of his depth, one dimensional and devoid of ideas
Whereas ronnie heffron is obviously technically gifted but for me his style is all show and denton vassell showed him when stepping up theres more to succedding at domestic level.Although he has time on his side

Yeh I think Steve Williams looked awful at British level but he got there somehow.

Vassell is a quality operator and needs a bigger opportunity.

It used to be David Price but that's now swung in the opposite direction

Well Prepared Kevin Mitchell & Motivated Dereck Chisora deserve a mention

    In my personal opinion;

    Julio Chavez Jr
Robert Helenius (for a while, people seem to nicked on to the fact he's ****)
    Carl Frampton
    Felix Sturm
    Amir Khan
    Saul Alvarez
Lucian Bute (before Froch destroyed him).

Not saying all of these fighters are ****, they're all good (except Helenius, he's awful). Just not as good as the media and promoters like to hype them up as being.

    Theophane
    El Maachi

Could be classed as overrated fighters for me.

  10. I think they all box at a level higher than they should ,some have had undeserved title shots, some have good promotional deals that they are extremely lucky to have or feast on average opponents to build up padded records

Pretty much every fighter you mentioned is lower British title level fighter. They might win a British title if they are fortunate enough to be in a period where theres a lack of quality coming through. Would Ashley Theophane have won a British title if Hatton, Witter were around.

Its tough to say who is overrated and who is underrated. Pretty much every fighter has people who either overrate them or underrate them. In general every fighter from Liverpool is massivley overrated by anyone from Liverpool.

Fighters I personally do not rate highly that others do are Tyson Fury, Martin Murray, Frankie Gavin, Gary Buckland, Kid Galahad, Paul Butler.

Fighters I personlly do rate highly that others do not are Nathan Cleverly, Larry Ekundayo, Denton Vassell, Kevin Mitchell, Liam Walsh, Stephen Smith, Ashley Sexton.

Agree on most of them except Liam Smith.

Most seemed to think he was going nowhere & would be stopped by O'Meara but put in a cracking performance, if anything I'd say he's underrated with the amount of stick he gets

Add Gavin to the list, too.

He's done nothing of note as a pro, and he got taken the distance by an ex-pro football player (respect to Curtis, not knocking the lad at all).

    Theopane is definitely up there.

And I think Fury is as well. He is absolutely terrible, IMO. It just goes to show how weak the HW division is if he is in the top 5.
