Hey wats up ESB, do any of you guys think im overtraining? I always train regularly to stay in shape obviously but every now and again, I get these feelings of intense motivation(which i thougt was a good thing lol) and i train very hard and more often. I started doing roadwork every morning and loving it when i did it but i started to get ankle joint pain from just walking after a few weeks. I havnt even been able to jump rope the last few days at the gym because my foot gets tight in like 2 rounds when before i could go for five or more with energy, like it was nothing to bounce, even fun.
Am i beating up on my feet too much or something, or could i possibly be overtraining? I was never really sure about boxing training periodization since all trainers tell me" Train as hard as you can everyday. Run every day, box everyday, etc." I know with body building, you train a muscle, and depending on how intense the workout, you give it 3-5 days before you hit it again. IMO boxing training is 10 times as intense and difficult than any routine i followed when weight lifting. So do you guys think i should just take like a week off and come back fresh? itll be hard cause i really want to train right now, i just feel physically spent.

Take at least a week off and make sure to ice your ankle as much as possible.

    Alternate between hot and cold.

When I say "ice your ankle", I don't mean that you should simply put an ice pack on it.

No, no. Put it in icy water and take it out when it gets numb. Then have a hot bath.

Keep it raised and get plenty of protein, and hit it with an anti-inflammatory.

The last thing you need is tendonitis or a stress injury.

If you start back and it still hurts then take another week off.

i just got back from a two and a half week layoff because of my ankle. its probably not form overtraining you probably just stressed your ankle a little bit give it a week like jazzo said and see how it feels. when you first go back to working out to see if your ankle is fine dont go at it hard give it a light work out and work your way up to a hard work out

How often do you stretch? That could be the problem.

Take the weekend off. You should be able to do roadwork 6 days a week with 1 day off after getting some initial experience. Be sure to stretch and hydrate before you take off in the morning/night. Bodybuilding and Boxing are two very different sports. Bodybuilders don't need to be well conditioned, and boxers don't need to look proportional with every body part. Bodybuilders can split their workout through the week IE: Chest, Legs, Back, Shoulder, Bi/Tri/Forearm, while a boxer needs train his body as one through sport specific only exercises. That's why you don't drop the 3 rounds of pad-work for a couple sets of alternating bicep curls.

I stretch pretty often actually, lightly before my morning run and moderately afterwards. Same for my post workout, although i dont really emphasize the calf/ankle stretch as much as hams and quads. i guess i will in the future.
daaaaamn 7 miles a morn thats crazy. i do lik 2 sometimes 2.5 lol. Yea i wear these really comfortable new balances made for running(i bought them cause baskeball shoes gave me sore arches, i mean SUPER sore). I dont think the shoes are the problem, it may be the fact that i just started doing outside roadwork compared to treadmill.

Thanks for the replies guys. This is really frustrating cause i usually feel very light on my feet and it feels good to be so sharp and to bounce effortlessly, and now i have to like jump, it doesnt feel smooth and natural like b4(like 4-5 weeks ago). On top of that i gained like 10 lbs when i started dieting(wtf??) but i guess im just stressed. I guess ill take a week off even though im itching to be in the gym, mentally that is. Physically i feel like im 18 going on 30. i think above poster is right, my joints r prob just overstressed and need 2 recover i hope.

I had the same problem with my foot tightening up and I went to a massage therapist who also works for a physical therapist and she said that you really need to stretch your calves and ankles about 10x a day. It sounds like a lot but since I've been doing it I haven't had any problems. Try stretching first thing when you wake up, that's helped a lot with me.
