Honestly looking at the pics and fight, even though he's shorter and heavier, he looks way better than Arreola (shape wise). That was a really, really quick counter.

An in shape 217 pound Barrett makes little difference. Barrett has been nothing but a journeyman. Solis's victory over a C level fighter says very little. Let's not overreact.

Someone comment that this was an impressive win.
Hardly. Barret is long gone. Kevin Johnson would have done same and he isn't a puncher.
Boytsov had a better win by KOing Gavern for first time.
So bring on Solis Vs Boytsov!

A little harsh on barrett, but monte's punch resistence looked petty bad. the semi hook that put him down the first time didn't look like that hard a shot and looked more of an arm punch. and even if it caught him off balance, monte never recovered. Solis looked decent, throws some powerful punches, and didn't look as heavy as i thought for 270. hope he continues to step up and loses some weight.

Solis stopped Haye in the amateurs. Vitali will knock Johnson out. Vlad will knock Chambers out. Would like to see Vitali or Vlad fight Solis, knockout, but interesting any way. Arreola Vs. Solis interesting.

That was not so impressive. I was sure that Solis would KO Barrett. If Couser could do it why not Solis? Yet, I have to admit that Barrett could not do anything even close to dropping his opponent like he did with Haye.

The fight just proves the poor level of competition that Haye has faced before getting a title shot. I guess Solis should fight the winner of Valuev v Haye fight since that's how Haye got his title shot.

Solis is being built up as the next foe for Vitali, BUT (!) he needs proper built-up and conditioning. He needs to shed about 5-7% in body fat. Plus obviously he needs another 3-4 solid fights, maybe a fight or two that go over 10-12 rounds. He needs his stamina tested before he can even think about climbing in the ring with Vitali.

If they send in this out-of-shape version of Solis in the ring with Vitali too early he will just get annihilated. Why waste Solis? Obviously he has talent, he is "just" lacking the discipline. I am skeptical he can become more disciplined just by himself, but starting with a conditioning coach PLUS a nutritionist/personal chef would be the first step.

Solis physique looks like he is on a super high carb diet. Tons of rice/bread/chips etc. If you eat tons of garbage one can spend hours in the gym each day and he'll still have love handles. He needs his head screwed on and focus. Either he wants to have a shot at a belt or not.

I think Haye is far more vulnerable in the ring due to his style while each have a good amount of talent, but at least Haye is far more disciplined about nutrition, health and gym work.

I was very sceptical about Solis, but damn, that was impressive. OK you can say Barrett was a shot fighter. But that hand that knocked him down after his offensive try was really a beauty. Solis“ skills are really impressive. I hope he will get more serious with his shape when big fight is coming. His skills are definately a threat to Klitschkos.

Barrett really made a beginner mistake right there. Shows he really can't be considered to be anything more than a jouneyman anymore. Haye still had enough work with him for some rounds..

beating Barrett gives you entrance to the B-level, what it shouldn't do is give you a title shot.

That's because Haye let down his guard and tried to play with Barrett, who took the invitation and tried to slug it out with Haye.

Solis never let down his guard and pretty methodologically walked Barrett down. After 2 minutes in the first round you could see it on Barrett's face: He didn't like the fact this guy kept coming after him as Barrett was unable to land anything meaningfully.
