This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected He eventually secured his WBO title shot (thanks to some fine work by his promoter) after some impressive performances, although on closer inspection the vast majority were ripe for the picking. This content is protected Below is a brief rundown of his last six opponents. Take note that Paul Williams has only had three world title fights which were all at welterweight, among them is a loss to Carlos Quintana. This content is protected came into their fight on the back of a two round demolition at the hands of Vernon Forest and was dealt the same fate by Williams. Rios then went on to lose his next five bouts. Next was the undefeated This content is protected , who had built up an impressive record although all but one of his prior bouts were at home in Argentina. After Williams stopped him in 10 he went back home to score one final win before facing Cintron in New Jersey who slaughtered him in two rounds. Following that he was KO'd by both Bunema and Lujan. The destruction of This content is protected put Williams well and truely on the map but the sad fact is that Mitchell's career was finished 18 months earlier on the night Kostya Tszyu smashed him around the ring for three rounds. After that loss he stepped up from 140lbs to welterweight where he was given a six round boxing lesson from PBF. That defeat took place in between two nice victories over Chris Smith and Jose Cruz before the bigger, stronger and younger Williams feed off the scaps and brutally ended his career almost two decades after Mitchell debuted at 132lbs. This content is protected arrived in the USA with a hard earnt 27-1 record built up against moderate opposition in New Zealand. Wasting no time he stepped in against Randall Bailey who wasted even less time winning by 1st round KO. Next followed a match up with Brazilian Antonio Mesquita who took a little longer before winning by TKO in round six. Some bright spark then decided to throw Pakau into the ring against Paul Williams who continued the Kiwi's misery winning in six rounds by TKO. For some reason Santos Pakau has hung around in the USA, adding another two losses to his record... taking him to 0-5 since leaving New Zealand. Without doubt his finest moment was a hard fought victory over This content is protected that delivered him the WBO welterweight crown. Using his height and reach to advantage he had to work hard throughout the 12 rounds to get the verdict in an extremely close bout. Yet the one thing that stands out when looking at Margarito's career is the absence of big name opponents. Missing are guys like Mayweather, Dela Hoya, Mosley, Juddah, Hatton, Cotto, etc...yet we still find five losses beside his name, an indication of his limited ability which comes into play against specific type of boxers. While Cotto doesn't belong in the class of agile fighter with good hand speed that can outbox Margarito he does fall into a rare position of being able to do everything Margarito can do, only better. Can Mundine easily make MW? If so, why didn't he years ago and make good money against Hopkins or Taylor. At this point, having spent his entire career at SMW and being as old as he is, the success for him in moving down is statistically not in his favor. Williams has fought on Showtime and HBO already, been featured in mainstream US magazines, holds a trinket in the hot WW division. Those reasons alone get him the fight over the other canidates. I think Williams is a better fighter than we've seen so far. He's got a massive frame, bringing that down to 147 couldn't leave him with a whole lot. Additionally, Pavlik's time at 160 is running out. Somebody who could push him at 160 might expose that.
Hometown paper said we will know today, so I guess this is the most likely fight. Not posted to the web yet.
Williams by decision ... and the new Middle weight champion of the world ... Paul "the punisher" Williams ...
Enzo must have been worried about it as well. I've never seen a fighter do the "take a knee" technique so effectively. Pavlik never managed one of his finishing assaults on him.
Im getting crazier buy the minute Look im not the one thats in a no win situation ,what does this do for him ? If anything if its competitve its does wonders for Williams career ..If Pavlik looks bad how could that possibly a good look for him ? Pavlik can either say yes or no don't you dare put this all on Arum ..How dare u I think you are in serious denial about the sad reality of this choice ..Maybe you should step away from the pipe ..
Allan Green would be a decent tune-up till Abraham is done with Marquez, but Paul Williams?, that would be ridiculous.
Williams is about as coordinated as bambi on a frozen pond.......anyone else notice this? Williams never seems to have the right distance between he and his opponent to be effective.. he's either to close or too far away Also it would be pretty ignorant to forget about Williams-Quintana1....Quintana landed repeated and slow right hands over and over again... Pavlik punches through Williams' chest and rips his heart out Temple of Doom style
I agree but some guys got on my case for NOT shitting all over Pavlik. Im not giving him praise at all, the only thing i said he gets out of this is a paycheck . maybe a pat on the back by his dad but thats it. I guess he is carrying on with the middle weight tradition before him. Taylor fought smaller guys, hopkins fought smaller guys... hey when are these MW gonna start to fight each other, when they feel they need a new champ.
Good poingt about the previous tradition I still though don't think anyone should support this fight because of all of that crap these former middles got ..Remember when Taylor fought Ouma that was a no win ,When Hopkins fought Oscar that was a no win how could this be a win win ? It can't be .Its a better move for Paul than Kelly ..
