Kelly should at least over emphasis on the famous fighters' line " i fight who ever my promoter puts in front of me" . My guess is maybe his promoter doesn't see him as the "truth" so they are going to milk him till he has to literally defend his middleweight title( and in arums eyes really risk losing it) just a thought.

I am not a big Pavlik fan but if this fight is made i hope it written in the contract that pavik has 1 hand tied behind his back, cos he if he lands 1 decent punch its over.

First things first, Anthony Mundine walks around at approx. 165lbs (75kgs) which is 2lbs under super middleweight.

So why didn't he start off at middleweight?

Okay, if you didn't know Anthony played professional rugby league in Australia from 1993 to 2000. He played his last game on 3rd April 2000 and three months later had his first professional fight (3rd July 2000)

Because league players bulk up (as with most body contact sports) his natural weight was more than it is now after eight years of boxing training.

He could have worked hard to get down to middleweight but at the time Bernard Hopkins had been the IBF middleweight champ for six years and he felt that he could be waiting for some time before getting a crack at him.

Now the IBF super middleweight champ was Sven Ottke and the feeling was that if he done as well as expected then a title shot could be fast tracked against "a very beatable champion." The IBF was the way to go because their vice president is Australian Ray Wheatley who was prepared to help things move along due to his friendship with Anthony's dad Tony, a great fighter himself who lost a world title fight to the great Carlos Monzon.

So after ten successful professional fights (plus four amateur fights as a teenager) Mundine got his title shot against Ottke in Germany only 17 months after his debut. After eight rounds he was ahead on the scorecards and knocked down Ottke but as happens in Germany it was ruled a slip. In round nine he had Ottke in big trouble but Ottke used his experience (24 professional and over 250 amateur wins) to hold on as Mundine ran out of gas attempting to finish him off. A temple shot by Ottke in the 10th ended it for Mundine who later admitted his impatience and inexperience had cost him the fight.

As for being "old" and "moving down not being in his favour", one has to remember that he didn't have his first pro fight until he was 25 years old. Many of his fights have been nothing more than official sparring sessions with an aim to improve and fine tune his game. He is not battle worn and wouldn't have to waste hard to make the weight, in fact at times he has looked to small for super middleweight, especially in his losses to Siaca and Kessler.

Unfortunately, as it stands Mundine has had problems getting big name fighters to challenge him. This is because promoters feel they can make more money from other opponents without the risk of taking on someone with so much talent. At middleweight he'd give anyone a tough fight, even Pavlik.

I don't think it's official. If anything it's beginning to seem like some sort of ploy by the Williams camp. The best welters are fighting each other but you still have names like Luis Collazo, Jesus Soto-Karass. They are both rated top 10 boxers. I don't think that fight gets made. Then again I could be wrong.

Here is another thing i'd like to know ..Why would Arum agree to this fight but not seek out somone else ?

Its not like he didn't do that for Margarito ? The diffrence is 160 isn't as deep as welter so he could fight someone else in the mean time ..And if Joe does manage to return back to 168 he will be availavble .

I really want to know why would Arum push for this fight ? Money has always been a factor with promoters but this fight doesn't make sense at all ! :huh

Pavlik is going to do horrible things to Williams if this fight happens. Williams should take care of unfinished buisness with Martinez before he even thinks about jumping another weight class.
