Have you looked into Combat Sambo? Are there regular Combat Sambo tournaments in the UK? I believe the rules are great for anyone considering the move to professional mma. Check them out here: http://www.tournament.info/madoc/rules/Sambo_Combat_Rules.pdf

The bouts are 6 minutes long. You can win by ko, submission, decision, or getting a 12 point advantage.

Striking is permitted, but no elbows and no knees to the head.

Where I am from, amateur mma is almost the same as professional mma. The combatants just do it for free. I've talked with several people that pursue mma as a hobby, and they have no interest in competing in amateur mma. They would, however, be willing to fight under Combat Sambo rules. It's just that Combat Sambo style tournaments do not take place near me.

 

I think that for me personally, when GSP vs Condit is officially announced then GSP returns to the list at #3. (Because I expect Jon Jones to have stopped Hendo by then, and that being the case you can't keep him out of the top two.)

But your post is certainly reasonable. And if GSP comes back and owns Condit, then by the time that happens it could easily be Jones #1, GSP #2. Depending on what Sonnen does.

GSP is a top-3 ATG, but a p4p list has a lot of "what have you done for me lately" involved. Jones has gone on such an unbelievable run that even though he doesn't yet have the resume of GSP, his last year of near-total destruction of his entire division has to be rewarded over GSP's almost complete inactivity, even with a Condit win. :good

There are no Sambo tournaments around here that I know of sadly... We are getting more and more amateur MMA comps popping up though which is good.

Semi-Pro in the UK is more like American Amateur... head shots standing, no elbows or knees to the face and no head shots on the ground.

My next fight is on June 9th so hopefully I'll get a win and then take the gold in my next BJJ tournament on June 24th :deal
