Ok guys, who do you rate higher all time P4P and why? BHOP or Floyd? Both had good reigns at lower weights before moving up divisions and getting some big wins. Both are defensive masters who don't always get the credit they deserve, possibly because of their at times abrasive personalities. Thought there were some interesting parallels in this and was arguing with a mate about who was greater. To make clear am talking about at this present moment in time as I think we will see both fight again in future. Please vote and explain.
For me it's very very close. But I edge towards Hopkins on resume, which is something I value very highly. Hopkins is slightly higher in my all-time pound-for-pound rankings.
Please don't even start. The only P4P-er Mayweather beat was Hatton. It was a legitimate and huge win, as well as the close win over the late Oscar, the Corrales victory, the 2nd JLC win (I thought Castillo did enough in the 1st to pull it off), getting titles in several divisions and getting the undisputed WW championship beating the great Carlos Baldomir. Hopkins is the first in boxing history to unify all 4 titles. He beat top P4P-ers in Tito, DLH, Tarver, Winky and Pavlik. Captured The Ring title in 2 divisions. Only one to stop Glen Johnson, Oscar and Tito. 10 years as MW champ, record-breaking defenses in the division history. Only very closes losses despite being 40+. Floyd can't match that, but if he decided to come back, I say 3 years and 5 big wins vs. actual P4P-ers might equal the old man's resume.
i'd call it a no brainer...at 43 bernard is still one of the best p4p also he ducks no one....and he goes out his way to fight the best possible opposition he can 90% of the time plus he has the better resume.....but skill wise i might give the edge to floyd, i'd put Floyd in the late 40's of all time and bernard in the mid to late 30's
Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins AKA B-Hop ! Floyd has alot more to prove in the ring before I even have to think before answering this question !
In terms of inate physical talent, FMJ, but in terms of actual accomplishments, Hopkins, without a doubt.
Hopkins and it's not even close. That said FMJ is young enough to do something about it but sadly its all about the money for him and not legacy.
I think it is close. On resume, its not close, but Mayweather was better than his resume suggests. He closes the gap on talent, but I agree that Hopkins must be ranked higher, he is greater IMO.
