They are 2 animals of a different variety with regards to their chin

(obvioulsy toney is p4p greater in other departments - not stamina/work ethic)

but in terms of chin who has the better chin p4p?

im going with toney- id like to see margarito go up to light heavyweight and take on the biggest punchers there.

the fact toney went to heavyweight- and took on a huge puncher in peter x2 and never went down or serioulsy hurt- thats a madman

    but both unreal chins

    Tough one - probably Margarito

Has faced some big punchers but never even been hurt at all - took some real punishment last night.

Well he was knocked down by a Peter jab, but it is true that he wasn't badly hurt.

Toney has never taken clean shots like Margarito does. I think Toney has a great chin, but it always gets overraed. People say he took good punches off Sam Peter...no, he didn't. He rolls with punches and very rarely takes a clean shot. His defence is what has made him, not his chin.

His chin is obviously really good anyway, but it isn't as proven as Margarito's. If Toney took the same clean shots as Margo did against either Cintron or Cotto, I think he would have been more affected by them.

Definitely Margo. Toney relied on being a slick, wily mufussa all his career. Margarito doesn't have this advantage and purely relies on his iron jaw.

My first comment on here after the fight was that Margarito is now up there with Toney as the best chin in boxing.

That's an excellent point about Sam Peter. The guy is meant to be the bomber of the heavyweight division, and he did not hurt Toney in 24 rounds.

However, the difference is that Toney is a fighter of such immense defensive quality, that he NEVER actually gets hit on the chin. I honestly think Toney has a better defence than even Hopkins or Mayweather, he has the best defence since Whitaker. But although he has a defence that is a billion light years ahead of Margarito's, I have never seen ANYONE take so many wicked headshots from a known banger in his own division and NOT EVEN FLINCH. Margarito was getting cracked to the face and head repeatedly and it didn't even affect him in the slightest, I have never seen Toney walk through that sort of punishment because he is too skilled to get caught like that.

For this reason, the evidence says Margarito has the edge on chin alone as his chin is more often tested and holds up, though obviously Toney is the best all-round defence in the game.

Andrade has an incredible chin too (the clean shots he was taking from Kessler)

Margarito edges Toney chinwise but if u were modeling the best modern fighter u would want him with a chin of either of these 2.

Toney is like a fat Pernell Whitaker, his great defence allowed him to go thru 80 pro fights against mostly quality opposition without taking much punishment, but he still took many punches by some huge punchers to the head and body in these fights. When you're fighting for 20 years it's normal that you're taking some big punches down the way, even if your defence is great, that's just the way it is.

The thing is, Margarito has a great, great chin, but could he move up to HW and take one single bomb from Samuel Peter? Could he move up to LHW and take flush shots like he did against Cotto?

Some people are sackswinger plain and simple...This is a no-thought poll.

Lets see..Margo is a middleweight fighting vs welterweight and he has never been stopped

Toney is a middleweight that for the past 15 years have been fighting Lt heavyweight and Heavyweight and has never been stopped...

Yeah its Margo that has the better chin:huh

After Margo fights a couple of 12 round fights vs some supermiddles and lt heavies then we can revisits this topic:hi:

I think this is a meaningless comparison. Both are close to impossible to KO. If you pushed me, i'd pick Toney, but I don't think there is anything meaningful in it.
