Lawrence Okolie just released a track last night "TKO". This content is protected But what I want to know is, who is the pound for pound king of BoxRap? Post your suggestions I also nominate Adrien Broner - This content is protected
How could I forget "Ya'll must have forgot" by Roy Jones Jr. This content is protected A solid nominee
Not my scene as I have only seen one live at Toe Haye v Pudding Chisora at Upton Park in 2012. Think he was called Angel and he got constant boos and jeering from the moment he entered the ring to the moment he reached the safety of the player's tunnel. No idea whether the guy was a good rapper or not but clearly the fans were incensed at listening to his shyte when they should have been watching boxing.
The term ego trip comes to mind when you watch any of those and Broner's one is borderline parody, liked Okolie's one though, the way he just says Arabs !! Damn the guy's a savage, just don't care bout no political correctness !!!
I used to hear DJ's dropping Can't Be Touched in mainstream clubs and bars back in the mid 00's, I remember a text wall in a club and I requested it followed by a message saying that the guy in the red Fubu wants it with anyone that's ready to go, it kicked off before RJJ was dropped but it was my comical vision that the jacked up guy in the Fubu wearing a bandana in Mercy Nightclub, Norwich, would be going full Van Damme (bar scene) to Can't Be Touched, I was minutes out, gutted.
Britain's best ever boxer, Audley 'A Force' Harrison did a song a few years back. It was for a mental health charity if I recall, but still, that's no excuse. I can't find it on on the tinterweb for some reason. What I do know is it did wonders for my mental health because I laughed for at least 10 minutes when I heard it.
I don't mind a bit of rap, when done well it's great. Okolie and Broners offerings are atrocious though.
I love PE, NWA, Cube, Snoop, Beasties, HoP, Consolidated, DHoH, etc (80s/90s thing) but I braved the Okolie video to the 1m 51s mark before I cut it off. Stick to the Boxing cha!
