    P4P: Harder puncher, Mayweather/Whitaker (147lbs)

Overall, Who do you think is a harder puncher @ 147lbs?
Neither guy has ever been known as a "Power puncher".

Be interesting to see the results.

Pernel Whitaker Vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (Harder puncher?)

Probably Mayweather, but there's not much in it.

Whitaker's power was evident from how many times he seemed to hurt McGirt in the rematch. But other than that, I don't think he displayed significant power there (I haven't seen the Jake Rodriguez fight).

Floyd took 10 rounds to get rid of Hatton while Pacquiao done it in 2 (at Hatton's stronger weight as well), Floyd could not put away Zab Judah (whereas Tszyu done it in 2), he took 6 rounds to get rid of Sharmba Mitchell (Tszyu done it in 3 at Sharmba's stronger weight), and he only dropped an overweight Marquez in his mid-late 30s once (whereas Pac dropped a peak version 3 times at his best weight and another time at a very good weight for JMM).

Neither man had particularly good power at 147, but overall I'd still edge with Floyd, though Pea was clearly the superior fighter there.

All very good points. The only "power" Mayweather really ever had at 140 or above is his speed. In other words, the unpredictability of his punches made them hurt, but from a pure power standpoint, there was very little.

Your comments about Ricky Hatton are just plain ridiculous. Hatton had never even been dropped when he faced Mayweather.

Hatton nearly got blown away by Juan Lazcano before he faced Pacquiao. He never recovered from the Floyd loss. Should have retired there and then.

Watch the Lazcano fight. He very very very nearly got stopped in that fight as well. Numerous times.

Pacquiao faced a crusty old shot name, who shouldn't have even been in the ring with any PFP fighter.

Like saying Danny Green is a bigger puncher than John Ruiz as he blew away a shot old Jones in a single round

Again, what a series of stupid stupid pacland trash comments.

Pacquiao got rid of Hatton for the same reason Lazcano nearly did it.

Hatton was probably more shot than Oscar, and shouldn't have even been in the ring at the time.

Floyd knocked Marquez down with the first shot he tried to land. He could have finished the guy whenever he wanted.

Marquez was 144 pounds in ring versus Mayweather. He was was 142 in ring versus Juan Diaz the fight before.

Floyd was 149 in ring with Mosely. Manny was 146 in ring with marquez at super featherweight!?

As I said, just your classic Pacland rubbish.

i think its about equal...floyd doesn't have power at 47..he can sting u because you just dont see a lot of it comin..but it dont pack a lot of power behind it

Ricky Hatton was knocked down by Eamon Magee well before the Mayweather fight. And he didnt nearly get stopped against Lazcano ''numerous times'' he got rocked twice at best.

I think PBF by a hair, but i'm thinking of his more combination intensive 130 days.

Plain ridiculous is a bit harsh bit the point is valid , were it not for a bit of friendly reffing Hatton wouldve been stopped by Lazcano and despite the fact he leathered malignaggi , even he made him blink a few times , his resistance was gone. The other comparisons are a fairer though.

As to the point I'll go with May but only just , I think peak for peak Sweet Pea is the better man though

The only fighter in the division Hatton would have gone 12 rounds with is Malignaggi.
