Laguna. Took one out of a series with Carlos Ortiz which is better than anything Weston ever did, with no offense to Weston whatsoever who was an underrated boxer.
My sentiments exactly,Cobra. But I've been debating with Mag about Buchanan's opposition and Cuevas' opposition. And he wrote that Cuevas' wins over Shields,Weston,Gray and Espada were better than Buchanan's victory(ies) over Laguna as it was(they were) towards the end of Laguna's career even though Laguna was only 27 the 1st time and had never been stopped or ko'd unlike Cuevas and the 4 opponents that he mentioned.I was just trying to gauge responses after I'd thought I'd lost my mind when he wrote that.
..yeah, that is waaaay over the edge for sure. Buchanan and Cuevas don't even share the same hemisphere in terms of quality wins. Laguna was a gifted athlete as well as a great boxer, even at the stage in which he and Buchanan met..he was never anybody's stiff or ko victim. He had enough left in the tank to beat a lesser guy than Buchanan. Cuevas's victims, comparitively, were less quality than Laguna, but I'm always impressed by the skilled and underrated tough guy Randy Shields though.
Shields actually beat SRL in the amateurs, although he couldn't duplicate that success in the pros obviously. But he was pretty tough, although not as good as Laguna p4p.
