I think it'll be difficult for either Gamboa or Rigondeaux to be P4P #1 in five years given their already advanced ages. Gamboa especially seems to rely on his freakish physical gifts, so we may see something similar to the rapid descent of Roy Jones, Jr. when he loses a step or two. That doesn't mean they won't both occupy the Top 10 for meaningful time; I think they will soon. Ward, Dirrell, and Dawson are all young enough now that they should still either be in their primes or just exiting them in five years. Each has the talent level and skill to give it a serious run. The great thing is that the former two will likely move up to 175 at some point allowing for a round robin. A similar triumvirate exists at 140 with Bradley, Alexander, and Khan. I'll be curious how they interact with Berto, who is small enough at 147 that I don't expect him to move up any time soon. We'll know a lot more soon given that Ward is fighting Dirrell and Bradley may get Alexander (assuming each win their interim bouts) early next year.
Ha, Valero actually got more mentions than Mayweather. All the people who said Ward weren't far off. Someone also mentioned Wlad. That wasn't far off either.
Just *****'s parroting Floyd. I don't remember Alexander ever being held in that high of regard. Bradley was the favorite going in right? Some decent shouts of Rigo, GGG and Ward overall though. Reckon in the post Floyd/Manny era it'll be whoever wins between Ward and GGG, assuming they fight down the road of course.
:huh That's what stuck out to me. I never remember people being that high on him, always thought people accepted he was behind Bradley & Khan @140
Floyd had called him the next big thing in boxing around this time. They are literally just parroting Floyd. Think F*lomos with Broner a year ago, but 2010 instead.
Everyone ranked him ahead of Khan and thought he was better until Khan proved many doubters wrong when he beat then clear cut #4 Maidana in the war and leapfrogged Alexander to the #2 spot, thus making Bradley vs. Alexander not for the vacant lineal title. Alexander was mentioned so much because of his weight class, dimensions, age, and already being a unified champion. Pretty logical.
And we have a winner! P4P king, 2015: Mayweather... who would have guessed, other than arm chicken? P4P honorable mentions, 2015: Pacquiao, Roman G, Wladimir, Rigondeaux, Estrada, Kovalev, Marquez, Bradley, Froch In fairness, anyone who mentioned Andre Ward was just about as correct as anyone other than the one guy who said Mayweather.
He might've been rated above Khan at the weight but surely most people knew Khan was the better fighter of the two (as he proved recently). I can't remember one point NOT thinking Alexander was an easy nights work for Khan. I also think though more of the reason for Khan claiming the number 2 spot than beating Maidana was Alexander going life and death with Koletniyk who Khan mopped the floor with.
