you are right it didnt start in the 90s i never said it did all im saying is im trying to be real with my boxing knowledge i.e only able to comment on fighters that iv seen myself-either live in the stadiums or at very least on tv!
again its another band wagon fan-y would Ali HAVE to be on any list? he aint even the best heavy weight and thats a FACT!
I disagree (although it is debatable). Calzaghe is not the greatest fighter from the UK in the last 20 years, FACT.
and your boxing knowledge is calzaghe at no. 10 atg boi, why dont you just make a poll and and im pretty sure you will be enlighten. trust me:good
calzaghe is 1 of MY favourites I already know no 1 else rates him but iv havent had a single person come back to me to say why they dont rate him? putting him in the top ten is just as stupid as putting him at 120-150!!! if we had a poll im sure he would be closer to top 30 as i originally stated then top 150!
and sorry im not as quick as some of you at cutting and pasting from web pages- I actually try and remember my facts and my opinions are actually my own rather then band wagon jumpers who rely on newspaper cuttings and web pastings!l
It would be quicker if you just look at your own list and find Sven Ottke's name and Mikkel Kessler's. Joe's comes before theirs. My list takes into account and assesses a fighter's actual abilities based upon watching them fight. It "smooths" for hype, careful matchmaking, and relative or comparative abilities - if I didn't correct for these things it would be possible to end up with, at the extreme, Tye Field type fighters being considered and Ottke/Calzaghe being rated too highly. Ottke's and JC's record indicate perfection and dominance. But that was hardly the case in their era and definitely not from a historical perspective. If their "perfect" records were so amazing, unattainable, and prestigious then other fighters from 154, 160, & 175 would have found their way to compete for their accolades or laurels (envy and pride can be very effective motivators). The truth is no one gave a **** about 168 and even less about a Sven Ottke or a Joe Calzaghe. Sven was okay. Joe was pretty good. Neither was elite. Both have records that reek of favorable conditions, predisposed refs & judges, and suspect accomplishment. Why some argue against the obvious (as it is easy to watch them on tape struggle with dozens of average fighters/talents - if the reviewer were too young to have watched these fights when they occurred) is surprising but not at all in the "demographical" sense. Ever seen fewer legit and impressive KOs/TKOs in a supposed elite's career before? Surely there must be others over such a long history of the sport of boxing but clearly theirs deserve adequate consideration and/or notation. :good
