Without getting into the whole Pacman-Hitman P4P stuff that is going on, why do we have or need P4P rankings and what do they really mean.

In his pomp Mike Tyson was generally rated P4P #1, but as a heavyweight was only ever going to fight other heavyweights so what was the point.

If you think about the P4P title as a general title then it makes sense that he who beats the P4P king should become #1. This is certainly not the belief of most of the boxing world though. Most prefer to see it all most as a league type situation where just because Bolton Wanderers beat Manchester Utd they don't automatically become Champions of England.

It is these 2 different prospectives that I believe people find confusing.

Is the reason that we need P4P titles that we have far to many worthless titles and worthless titleholders like Valuev, Ruiz etc etc etc.

If there were only one belt per divison, we would have only genuine champs, would we need P4P titles?

    Just my ramblings......

P4P ratio = weight / KO ratio + wins * (style points + HBO specials - jibber jabber) + Goldenboy magic points - losses.

    it's science

After reading the first paragraph I already knew my reply. It's just for fun, nothing too serious, people will always discuss it so we may aswell. The only bad thing is Hatton starting to convince people it is a lineal title...

Hatton would need to beat Pac and PBF to be #1 p4p. If he beats Manny he will be top 3p4p though. Not that big a leap as he is currently #10 p4p and at least two fighters (BHop and Calzaghe) might retire by the end of the year.

And, yeah it is just for fun but p4p lists do have some merit. A featherweight will never fight a heavyweight but you can analyze them on p4p talent basis. Ironically, I think the lighter fighters are a bit overrated and the bigger fighters are a bit underrated on such lists.

I agree that certain weights are most definatley favoured over heavyweights. Maybe as they tend to offer much more entertaining fights that often end up in wars.

honestly, even he loses to Pac

if he beats, Bradley, Torres, and Holt, i'd have him as high #2 P4P...i dont like the idea of beating 1 guy then jumping 10 ranks p4p

you should have to earn it, like Pac did, he fought his way to the #2 spot, then Mayweather retired and he became King

Also what right does B-hop have to be in the P4P rankings? He has lost 3 of his last six fights and only won 1 out of the last 10 inside the distance.

It's not about right, it's about opinion, but their credibility has to be proven. And Hopkins should definitely be up there, just look more into him and actually watch him.

But what timeframe do you put on that statement. B-Hop has lost 3 out of 6 and still rated #4 P4P. How can you be pound for pound number 4 in the world when you cannot win consistantly within you own weight classes.

its just to say or everyone thinks is the best boxer out of all weight classes. which there is, at every point in boxing, where there is a boxer that is better than everyone, which is Pacquaio right now.
