Great answer, and very true. If someone asks me who the best fighter I've ever seen in my life is, I wouldn't hesitate to say Roy Jones Jr. However, if someone asked me who the most fundamentally sound boxer I've ever seen in my life is, I think Mayweather would definitely be near the top. As for who is the "greatest", well, then you have to start taking into account resumes and all that, and I'd have to say that by the time it's said and done, if he beats Mosley and goes on to beat Pac-Man, then Mayweather will definitely be the greater of the two, since Pac, Mosley, JCC > Hopkins, Toney, Ruiz.
Actually, Roy's 'level of opp' isn't exactly outstanding in itself. But I would rank him higher P4P. Floyd would be right along side him though if he were to beat both Mosley & Pacquiao in convincing fashion.
Mayweather. In his prime, Jones had the illusion of being better, because he was more flashy, but as far as out and out boxing skills, Mayweather has him beat.
RJJ no question. If Mayweather beats Mosley and pac he might be slighlty ahead of RJJ but unless that happens it'll be Roy and prime for prime I think RJJ is the most untouchable fighter ever
Jones. Best since Duran, with possible exception of Pea. And, depending on how Pac's career finishes up, the possible exception of Pac.
P4P Roy would give him ****ing fits and make a fool out of him. RJJ beat good boxers like Hopkins and Toney. Floyd beat brawlers like Hatton and Corrales who were tough guys but very beatable by a pure boxer. If Zab can give Floyd trouble P4P RJJ would have him all over the ****ing joint.
Roy and it's not that close. Roy was faster. Roy hit harder. Roy unified a division. Roy was probably even better defensively. Though I rate Mayweather in the top 40 all time, I have Jones in the top ten. Keith
Assuming that they were the same size in this P4P matchup, the closest match might be the James Toney fight except more competitive. Floyd uses the same shoulder roll style and would be harder to hit because he's more mobile and may even connect with more punches because Floyd is quicker than Toney. Regardless, Roy was just too unorthodox and hard to time in his prime. Roy by UD 9-3.
I'm not sure I'm tempted to say Jones but I could go either way. At 168 & 175 I can't see anyone beating Jones in a Prime vs. Prime match up. I also have trubble seeing anyone beating Mayweather at 130. Mayweather has better boxing skills but Jones was faster.
