Which ATG has the most impressive resume; wins over other all time greats and great fighters Here are some of my candidates: Ray Leonard has Benitez, Duran, Hearns (all close to peak) and a still faded hagler Harry Greb has gene tunney, mickey walker, George Chip, jack dillon, Battling Levinsky, Mike McTigue (most of these were much bigger men) Ezzard Charles: Archie moore, Burley, Joe Maxim, Walcott (and a few more) Imn sure there quite a few others
Sam Langford: Joe Gans, Harry Wills, Tiger Flowers, Sam McVey, Jeff Clark, Stanley Ketchel, Kid Norfolk, Joe Jeanette, Jim Barry, Jack O'Brien, Young Peter Jackson, Jack Blackburn, Dave Holly. It's an absolutely astonishing array of styles and weights, and it's unequalled I think.
Add Tommy Loughran, Maxie Rosenbloom, Kid Norfolk, Mike Gibbons, Tommy Gibbons, Jeff Smith, Eddie McGoorty, Billy Miske and Jimmy Slattery to Greb's resume.
Langford and Greb fight it out for all time IMO, but of the relatively modern era, nobody really comes close to SRL. Pacquaio doesn't win this competition but his lighter weights run of Morales x2, MAB x2, and JMM is very impressive.
Whilst i am not actually nominating Ali, i can not off hand think of another boxer who, not once, but twice, was such an underdog in title tries he was generally assumed to be headed for quick destruction on both occassions, and he prevailed - 10 years apart. ! and when you think so many prophets of doom said his hands down, chin in the air, pulling stright back from punches..etc would find him out, and the calibre of opponent of more than one generation that tried and failed to bring those predictions to pass. ...Dammit i think i will Nominate Ali.
Greb stands out to me. Whenever I've scanned his record I've always had a "****, he beat him as well?!?" moment...
I think an honorable mention should go to this guy During his career, he beat 13 champions and won the Welterweight Championship of the World He was most famous for his three bout series with each of five outstanding fighters - Barney Ross, Fidel LaBarba, Sammy Mandell, Billy Petrolle and Charles "Bud" Taylor and had victories over each of them Among others he defeated were Benny Leonard, Lou Ambers, Tony Canzoneri, Louis "Kid" Kaplan, "Young" Jack Thompson, Sammy Fuller, Young Corbett III, Jackie Fields, Al Singer, Ray Miller, Sid Terris, Joey Sangor, Ruby Goldstein, Joe Glick, "Sergeant" Baker and Young Nationalista SO Classic section - who is he
Has to jimmy mac surely? Kurupt, I don't think pea's resume is in the same tier as greb's or langford's.
