    All good fighters but who would I take out to replace them with ?
    Im only allowed 10.

    Ps. Id have Morales & Barrera on my list before any of those guys too TBH, fantastic fighters in their prime.

    Didn't a lot of Duran's accomplishments happen pre-80s?

    I was torn on Hearns. Again, I don't think compiling such a list is all that easy.

    But I will defend Tyson over Lewis:

    Lewis was never considered the best P4P fighter in boxing. Tyson, on the other hand, was considered the best over a 2-3 year period.

    I probably placed more emphasis on number of years one was perceived as the #1 guy in a given year than most seem to be doing. (Although, I concede having made an exception against this trend with regards to Roy).

    I wasn't quite certain how to tackle this, and my early 80s knowledge is definitely inferior to my familiarity with the sport from the late 80s onward.

    I gave it my best shot.

    Don't apologize for nothing Rumsfeld. I find it surprising since I see you mostlly over in the Lounge section. Ironically, you have managed to come up with the best list in the classic section and that puts the others to shame. And that opinion's coming from the expert!

    Whatarock, Rumsfeld did pretty good. He got a good feel for the 80s decade even tho he wasnt really around. The p4p list from KO reflects this.

    I think Hagler and Roy got to get top honors becuz they win most times. What might be hurting Roy a little bit is the way his career went. One beating and he never rebounded. I honestly dont know why he keeps fighting! He is risking his health now

    But I was thinking that how after the Ruiz fight how he should just go out on top and the reason is that history has shown that after long winning streaks and crowning accomplishments, the fighter always seems to take a huge fall.

    The list is pretty good...I just cant see the justification of Mayweather being that high..above those other fighters. But Rummy gave his and thats fine.

    I was laughing at your "And that opinion's coming from the expert!" comment.

    I said that becz I seen most of the early title fights as they happened. Saad Muhammad, Spinks, Braxton, Hagler, Sanchez, Chandler, Camacho, Leonard, hearns. I even seen LAXPDX's boy - Ayala when he was in action.

    I seen Hagler once at the Garden and saw him in sparring for Leonard. I seen so much and still have my collection I acquired. I read all the magazines from that decade0-enough to know that most of the writers were just bullshitters.

    actually gives you a bit more validity. The basis of many your arguments is that Ray Leonard is overrated. Your acknowledgment of a high ranking of Leonard here suggests that you know he was great, but to a lesser degree than many believe. I'm not saying you are wavering, learning to accept, or anything like that. I've had my rounds with you in the past. I'm just saying that I respect this view.
