Ali is more or less on par with Duran. I'm not utterly convinced, thus the 1 point differential. Both could and did go down (from left hooks interestingly enough) and get up to usually win. I'd edge Duran because of those horrendous shots he took from Barkley, Cuevas, his ability to shake off Leonard's bombs in Montreal, and the fact that he was stopped twice, to Ali's once, but had twice as many fights as Ali and against larger men.

Ali's stoppage loss is about as significant as Duran's to Joppy though.

    Sure, okay.

For the record, I've been a fan since Ali since I was around 7 years old and remember well the trauma when I saw his picture on the front page of the Boston Herald losing to Spinks.

    You are too sure.

Pep fought and defeated ranked contenders in two division something like 54 times. That's 7 less fights than Ali had in toto. It's hard to beat a man who was 134-1-1. Ali would deserve to be catapulted to near-greatness based on the Liston win alone. He was 22. Pep had to lie about his age to get the title shot against Chalky Wright at MSG. He was 20. And you can bet your britches that Wright trained like hell for that bout.

Check out your own juvenile insults that kicked this all off a few pages back. To be honest you don't really say much more than that you are right and we are wrong

This is a good system, and very interesting. If memory recalls, you posted it back on ESB quite a long time ago. However, after viewing your top 10, i have to call you out on the lack of Bob Fitzsimmons appearing in the top 10. He is maximum or close to maximum on pretty much every single category yet he doesnt seem to make the top 10?

It ain't personal. I don't know if your a slave to fashion or not. I'm far more suspicious -no, make that FED UP with the non-stop worship by the boxing establishment of Ali at the expense of so many.

I have no problem with Ali at 9 or 10, but after that, it gets tough to justify at least by my calculations.

He would be, but the list only covers what I consider the modern era -since 1920.

It said top 10, not top 20....

Greb for many years was grossly underrated, and it was excellent that the leaders of this forum, started to make people aware of this, and thus Greb started to get the kudos he deserved.

But there comes a point where other fighters get overlooked, because of this. I know the love fest for Tunney in the 80s put people off the Fighting Marine, but come on 20+ years have passed, he needs some kudos.

Also I noticed it is no longer the done thing to rate Moore anymore, his brilliance seems to be taken for granted...

The love for Duran is going though a dip, as those who saw him, are over taken by the new breed of fans from the 90s and early 20th century.

This forum is a little clique and thus I am just waiting for the first person who puts Jimmy Young in their list!:yep

    I'm kidding. I don't disagree much. Pep's only 3 spots above Ali.
