1. Pacquiao (Beats Mosley and Bradley) 2. Marquez (Beats Guerrero, Linares and Judah) 3. Cotto (Beats Margarito II and Martinez) 4. Wlad (Beats Adamek, Tua and Povetkin) 5. JML (Beats Litzau, Rojas and Gamboa) 6. Montiel (Beats Donaire and BW tourny winner) 7. Ward (Beats AA and Froch) 8. Martinez (Beats Andy Lee but loses to Cotto) 9. Khan (Beats Maidana, Ortiz and Katsidas) 10. Cloud (Beats Dawson and Pascal) Floyd is out due to inactivity.
1. Mayweather / Pacquiao winner 2. Mayweather /Pacquiao loser 3. Sergio Martinez 4. JMM (if he is still around) 5. Donaire 6. Gamboa (beating Juanma and John) 7. W Klitchko 8. Khan (beating Bradley/Alexander winner, Maidana and hopefully Pearson/Ortiz winner) 9. Ward (beating Froch and Abraham) 10. Hopkins (beating Pascal)
Quote is being all kinds of fail, so my apologies, but, ya, what Tackleberry said. That, and I can't see Pascal being top 10 P4P. Even if he beats Hopkins and another credible opponent at 168 or 175 (which I don't see happening because he either won't land the fight or because he'd rematch Dawson and possibly lose), I just think there's way too many more appropriate choices for the P4P top 10. He's also a disaster waiting to happen IMO. My hating on Pascal aside, lotsa the other names on that list seem good (though order is up to debate). The 118 tourney winner may also be there if he has a good run and does so in an impressive fashion. I can also see Bradley and Gamboa in the mix.
Lets say Pac loses to Floyd but doesnt retire. There's no way he drops down to #5. Next year, assumung Mayweather is in someway active, #1 and #2 are still Pac/May.
1. Pac - after beating Mosley/JMM/Cotto 2. Mayweather - beating maybe Berto? He won't fight Manny. 3. Donaire - KO Montiel and Mares 4. Martinez - 2 decent wins 5. Wlad - beating some can/Povetkin? 6. Gamboa - KO JML/John 7. Ward - winner of S6 8. Khan - best 140lber 9. Adamek - WBA HW champ ;D 10. JMM - lose to Pac
Well, if it happens first, but that's another subject for another day. But the winner won't/shouldn't fall out of the list. The loser will still be the 2nd best fighter on the planet by some distance, I think the Ring and people on this forum would recognise that if it happened. It won't have changed that much. A year isn't much in boxing terms. I'm not going to give a definitive top 10 yet as I won't have put much thought into it. But a few points to consider: Will Pacquiao still be boxing? If he is, he's of course guarenteed to still be there. But he might decide that his passion for politics and helping his people and needs his full attention and quit the game altogether. Mayweather will probably still be around. He's not an old 33 even if he may have lost a bit of footspeed and his hands may continue to break down. He keeps himself in good enough shape all year round and is smart enough and skillful enough to box on without much deterioration if any. Wladimir Klitschko will probably still be on top of the heavyweight tree. He of course isn't going to fight his brother, so there's no chance of him losing a fight there obviously [he'd batter Vitali anyway] and I don't see him losing to Haye whatsoever, again, if the fight comes off at all. Nor is there any reason HW's out there to really trouble him. We'll have the winner of the Super Six by this time next year of course. They'll of course be in there, probably Ward. Can you see the winner of Donaire-Montiel losing 8 months after that fight? I don't. They'll be in there. Chad Dawson could very well be back in the light-heavyweight mix by that point. He COULD perhaps have beaten the winner of Pascal-Hopkins, who knows? One of those 3 is almost guarenteed to be in there somewhere. Sergio Martinez - where will he be? Top 10? Probably, if he fights Mayweather or Pacquiao and loses, he's still top 10. Only losing to lesser names is going to knock him down the list. I can't see it, especially at middleweight. JuanMa or Gamboa in there? Possible, very possible. Especially if that fight comes off, the victor would be there I'm sure. Hopefully by this time next year, we'll have had the winners of Khan/Maidana and Bradley/Alexander square off. They'll certainly be in the top 10, no doubt. This content is protected : Okay, I WILL have a go at a top 10. Very rough, very quick and probably some bad choices, feel free to feedback on it. 01.Manny Pacquiao 02. Floyd Mayweather 03. Andre Ward 04. Wladimir Klitschko 05. Sergio Martinez 06. Fernando Montiel 07. Bernard Hopkins 08. Amir Khan 09. Juan Manuel Marquez 10. Juan Manuel Lopez Reasons: Manny and Floyd are yet to fight. Pacquiao remains top on balance of recent competiton/activity. Ward wins the Super Six, beating Abraham and Froch. Wlad is still dominating opponents at heavyweight, but is yet to fight Haye. Martinez doesn't fight either Manny or Floyd, but remains around 157-160 and remains unbeaten. Slips slightly due to level of competition, not quite as high as the likes of Ward's recent wins. Montiel beats Donaire, which puts him way up there pound-for-pound. Hopkins upsets Pascal with another ageless performance and regains his place in the top 10 P4P. Khan beats Maidana and then Bradley to establish himself as the top 140lber and having beaten two good names, finds himself in the top 10. Marquez gets his third fight with Manny and is stopped for the first time in his career. He comes back after that at 135/140 though as his pride doesn't allow him to quit on a loss and he's still got something left. His talents as a top 10 fighter still are recognised and he's placed just inside the top 10. JuanMa probably won't have fought Gamboa by this point, but he'll have 2-3 decent wins I reckon that will propel him into the top 10 in the majority of people's lists rather than the minority as it presently is.
Excellent list as usual herbzg. My list of course was put together ironically to mock the similarly poor lists you will see often in this thread. My real top 10 P4P list will of course feature all Euro-Level athletes including many of the names you have posted in your fantastic list.
mayweather ( by default of Pac's loss, Mayweather decisions Khan in his only fight in 2011 ) Marquez ( after beating Pac ) Pac ( 4th fight with Pac in january 2012 ) Martinez ( beating Margie and Williams ) Montiel ( beating Mijares and Hasagawe again, fighting Abner Mares, winner of the Showtime Bantamweight championship, in 2012 ) Wlad ( beat 2 other fat guys, Haye anywhere to be found ) Bradley ( beating Alexander and Ortiz impressively, will get his megafight with Floyd in 2012) Ward ( beats Abraham and Froch to win the super 6,in 2 uneventful foulfests ) Pascall ( knocking out Hopkins and defeating Dawson again, megafight against Bute planned for early 2012.. Bute still hasn't fought anybody and that's why he still ain't in the top 10) Chris John ( still undefeated, beating Ponce de leon and some nobody in Indonesia.. Gets ducked by Gamboa and Juanma ) just missed out... Wonjongkan, loses in the rematch to koki kameda.. Juanma and Gamboa, Arum still uncomfortable with letting them fight eachother and serves them relatively soft opponents. Bute, by not fighting anybody
