Has nothing to do with power or style, his resume is not that good and his recent performances have been sketchy, including a near defeat against a 2nd tier fighter at 108. He's not fighting the best at 108 and the comp at 100 was horrible, it's a shallow division. Shouldn't be over a guy like Montiel, who's gained some solid wins impressively as of late and it's even more insulting for him to be over Mijares, who's unified two titles in his division and has beaten his opponents much more convincingly. Calderon is also not the best technical fighter right now. He's great at defence, but utilises range and pot shotting for half of it, that can't compare to defensive wizards who use an array of technique to avoid getting tagged while countering in range and in the pocket, against superior competition at that. The only reason Calderon gets mentioned so much is because some posters started mentioning him, which then everybody follows as usual. If people would actually watch his fights, they'd see what I'm talking about.
its hilarious for someone to say that having MArgarito in the top 30 is absurd and then put guys like Dzinziruk in top25 Montiel at 13?
Dzinziruk is a better fighter than Margarito. Tell me, what does Margarito's resume consist of? And his general performance level against B fighters and up? If you want Margarito top 30, then you naturally need Williams and Quintana above him, which Williams top 30? Montiel at 13, yes. What's the issue? He's the 2nd best in his division, his KO 4 of Castillo is better than anything Calderon for example has done, yet Caldy is routinely ranked top 10.
Amsterdam; you left out Taylor from your list, what gives? And BTW I admit I rank Cunningham higher than most, but I think that the #19 or 20 or whatever I gave him isn't absurd. The guy trains HARD and goes to fighters hometowns to win so I give him a little extra for it
Props to you guys who make these lists, its not for me. Hey Amsterdam I like the idea of your top 2. But Calderon is great, and I thought you just went off what you saw on film. Not really his fault about the lack of comp, no?
Do you even need to ask?:yep Just because he trains hard and travels doesn't mean he has the performance level, H2H ability or resume to be in the top 20 P4P. His most recent wins were close over Wlodarcyzk in Poland and stopping Huck late, both very average fighters at best. He also dropped a loss to Wlodarcyzk as well, completely fair decision at that. Top 20 P4P?:huh Adamek just schooled a better opponent than anybody Cunningham has fought, is he top 20? No.
Yeah, I think people respect Cunningham for his bravery and make that respect affect their judgement of him. People impressed with his performance in the Huck fight should watch Huck's last fight, which showed exactly what level he is and how badly he deals with pressure.
