P4P top 30 post yours, Ring Magazine?

Not an awful list, there's a few things I disgaree on (which is to be expected). My biggest concern is Linares at #12, I don't think he should be ranked nearly that high unless you put a massive emphasis on H2H. Even then you'd have to think of him very highly, or have him them based on potential.

His resume is weak compared to many others on the list, his best wins are a past prime Larios and a decent contender in Gamaliel Diaz. I honestly can't put him above the likes of Haye/Guzman/etc, all of which have had great performances recently. He is talented though and has a good future ahead of him if he makes some adjustments.

 

i don't get most of the list here...why is taylor not even top 20? is it because he lose twice? then by that logic, rafael marquez shouldn't even be top 10:huh

 

Best list so far. At least the first 20. From 20 to 30 I have a few things I would change, but overall the most correct list so far. In this top 20, I would only look at whether Vasquez, Mijares, Marquez * 2 should not be ranked a bit lower. Otherwise nice.

*Manny Pacquioa and Joe Calzaghe to me are interchangeable. They both won there last fights against pound for pound opposition, and both were close fights. However Joe in my eyes beat Hopkins clearly in the end whereas I personally scored the fight in favour of JMM in fight 2 with Manny.

As for the other picks, i.e. I already know what certain posters are going to say about Pavliks placing. Quite simply for me the fighters I have above him are better boxers until proven otherwise, with most having better resumes as well.

for me that is THE best list i've seen on here.

i have one single criticism/query and that is how highly ranked mijares is.

good p4p fighter - is he top 5? if you can give me your reasoning (if you dont mind), and it is justifiable, i'd happily consider that the best p4p list going.

*EDIT, i also wouldnt mind knowing why ricky is being placed so low? he lost only in what was fairly competitive for the first half of the bout to the best in the world, at a weight class we all knew he'd struggle in. he bounced back to win a virtual whitewash in his comeback fight - i think dropping 15 places is a little harsh and unfair.

To be honest no one else jumps out at me as being justified in higher than Mijares, at present. I think in previous years he would be lower on my list, but the calibre of fighter currently I feel my placing of him is okay. Could maybe have JMM move up above him one place, that would be cool, but after that, the lowest I can have him on current fighter level is 6th.

As for Ricky, to be honest buddy he was never above tenth in my pound for pound ever before anyway, even after the Kosta fight, he hit his peak of 10th place. His showing against Laczano showed me he should drop out of the top 20, as Taylor, Hopkins, Wright, De La Hoya, Diaz & Mosley are all on a higher level than him at present from my judgement. Im afriad for Hatton it is all downhill from here.

Its worth noting that I think the difference in calibre of fighter from P4P #1 to P4P #20ish is the smallest it has been for some years.

I consider Linares a borderline top 15 fighter based on resume and H2H. I had him and Haye rated closely together and would not be opposed to swapping the two.

Haye has really impressed the boxing world with his last 2 fights.

 

I had Linares at #13, and as I mentioned to aillmatic I can see him rating anywhere from #13 - #17. Great fighter in a H2H sense with some work to do resume wise before he gets any top 10 consideration.

Thing is, Guzman's resume needs some work as well. Also, I love everything about Guzman when I see him in the ring, but I think stamina wise he is behind many of the fighters I have ahead of him (outside the lone heavyweight, Wlad K).
