Foster spoke about sparring with Ali as an amateur. Let that be the end of it. Or produce proof (even interviews for a start). Can't get fairer than that.

The thing about Maher was that with either hand he knocked fighters out cold, often for several minutes.

You can't say that without having seen the fight and knowing the circumstances of it. You don't know how tough and/or elusive Dempsey really was, how cleanly Fitz was hitting him, or perhaps even how much power Fitz yet had at this stage of his career, and other factors. Heck, without having seen Dempsey, you don't know how much his impotence was a result of him being a "shell" and how much was the result of Fitz's power overwhelming him.

I've read more then once over the years that Foster handled him when they were both around the same size, before the Olympic trials where Foster was frozen out when Ali was chosen as the LHW represenative and he couldn't make it down to middleweight. Foster stayed the same size he was as an amateur his entire career, more or less.

Does anyone have any knockout stories with Maher? I've heard that in one fight he literally threw a punch with about 4 or 5 inches going for it, over the other fighters extended arm and knocked him out with just about no leverage.

Also, my clear pick here is always going to be Choynski. Johnson and Jeffries both said no one ever hit them like Choynski, and that included Fitz who killed three men with his bare hands throughout his career whether in sparring or otherwise.

It's a sparring story. That, according to Foster, took place in 1959 behind closed doors, when Bob was 21 and Clay 17. Not quite the same as an actual fight. Also, "no one else saw it" according to Bob, as it was a Sunday (everybody's day off). :think

Totally disagree. We can go back and look at 99.999999% of big hitters and find surprises and anomalies on their record.

Bob Foster, Julian Jackson, Alexis Arguello, Rocky Marciano (by virtue of that right in Walcott 1) there are others, more obscure champions as well, which I'm sure we aren't considering.
