Yesterday a thread about P4P lists was posted on the forum and the names on those lists were the following: Floyd Mayweather Past prime. Refuse to make the biggest fight out there. Always been a *****. Andre Ward Good fighter and all but one that has zero fan base and is reputed as being rather boring to watch. Will never amount to nothing history wise. Wladimir Klitscko Past prime. Could lose to a number of fighters in his own division. Grabs and sucks. Fights bums. Has 3 Ko losses. Manny Pacquiao Recently lost by Ko. Definitely past prime. Respectable fighter but on his way out. Timothy Bradley Skilled fighter and respectable fighter. Possibly past prime. Probably gonna suffer loads from his ring wars in the future. Doubtful that his name will grow loads. Juan Manuel Marquez One trick pony, knows how to fight Manny Pacquiou and that's it. Has done some good things in boxing but just count him out he's on his way to becoming a journeyman or retiring. Guillermo Rigondoux Very skilled fighter. Could beat loads of fighters but there aren't any bigname fighters out there for him to make a name off. Too boring to create his own fanbase. Carl Froch Got dominated by Adre Ward. Lost to Mr nothing special Mikkael Kesller. Is only on this list cause he's from the UK. Roman Gonzalez First time I ever heard of this fellow was when I saw him on these P4P lists. He may have won world titles and beaten very good fighters but he certainly didn't create any waves. Also it looks to me as if he's really just any other south american fighter, don't think that he's anything special really. Saul Alvarez Beat the brothers of Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton and then lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Who knows what this fellow will do? Create a big name for himself or start losing left and right to other fighters? Gennady Golovkin Looks somewhat skilled. Could do big things but hasn't!. Miguel Cotto Cotto is Cotto. He did very well VS Mayweather, he recently won the MW title and such but what does the future hold for him? Mikey Garcia Yeah yeah. This guy isn't very good at all. He'd lose badly to Rigondoux and nobody cares about this fellow. What is he doing on a P4P list? Adonis Stevenson The definition of nothing special. Sure he's one of those World Champions but he's just waiting for someone else who's also nothing special to come and take his belt away from him. Marcos Maidana The boy from Argentina. Tough guy and did ok vs a fading Floyd Mayweather but P4P? Really? Danny Garcia Decent enough fighter, probably wouldn't beat Floyd but could possibly beat Pacquiao and that's why they're more interested in fighting vs Amir Khan. Sure this guy is acceptable on P4P lists. Yuriorkis Gamboa A very skilled artist that doesn't have a fanbase and isn't really in the right division. Don't expect his star to start shining any time soon. Bernard Hopkins Old man Hopkins still on these lists. If boxing had progressed any these last years instead of regressing he would have been cycled out of them but.... it hasn't. Now I haven't been looking at old P4P lists lately but I'm almost positive that they were much better than this quality selection that we have on our current ones and that just says it all really. Boxing is going backwards not forwards. Boxing may have been dying for just about forever but if we had like 1000 individuals in the heard back in the day then we're now down to the last 100 and it's about to become extinct. Back in the day the talent pool in male boxing was much thicker and we also even had female boxing developing. Lucija Rijker was said to be P4P the #1 female fighter while Christie Martin was the largest name out there and then we had Mia St John as the phony using her good looks to get onto big cards. After that we had Laila Ali cashing in on her fathers good name with the daughters of Foreman and Fraizer also getting into boxing to find some cash for themselves and then we had this chick Ann Wolfe that was said to be something special. We had Holly Holm making her way up with her good looks and good boxing technique and we also had this puerto rican chick Melissa Del Valle that was sort of good....................... but where on earth is female boxing at right now? If male boxing is dead then female boxing has simply disappeared.... nobody mentions the female fighters any more. Female boxing was of course kind of an extension of male boxing, the bigger the male boxing was the bigger the female boxing scene was... with the male boxing scene reduced to ruins the female boxing scene simply vanished. We also had them boxing organisations the big four IBF WBC WBA and WBO but the IBO was starting to become a contender and it looked as if it could possibly become one of the big Five.... it didn't and is now rapidly becoming a garbage can title. We also had the IBA growing with support of Top Rank promotions but now it's back in the trash can and not worth any more than just the WBU or the IBC belt. Boxing is really dying and there's no denying it.
Everyone should do themselves a favor & stop worrying about the "health" of boxing. This will be around after we are dead & long gone.
Nice post! Heck it wasn't long ago that people were complaining about Lummox Lewis holding the title hostage. Fighting once a year and ducking Chris Byrd. Ruiz was god awful to watch. Holyfield was ancient at 40 (if only we knew he would stick around another decade). Our next generation was Audley Harrison, Joe Messi, and Dominick Guinn.
Greak work. It really illustrates how the same complaints get recycled. You can also see how retired athletes almost always feel that their era is far superior to the current era. No one seems to have a problem with old timers feeling that way, but they go crazy if a current fighter dares to challlenge the quality of older fighters.
