He's probably a better fighter than Ahumada in terms of skill (though he is hardly what I'd call a master craftsman himself, just sort of a solid guy floating in his prime somewhere higher than Argentine domestic level but still well below world class) but he couldn't handle the power and output as both his resistance & stamina even at just 30 seem to have eroded to near uselessness. :ohno

He's probably done, and will never again defeat anyone better than Ahumada, or as good.

Ahumada, meanwhile...eh. I thought he showed potential early on when he was raw & undefeated, and even after completing his trilogy with Alejandro Emilio Valori (which he officially "lost" 1-2 but should have swept three-zip IMO; here's a little write-up I did five years ago on their first couple of matches, before Ahumada suffered a BS DQ in the rubber: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...decent-fights-yet-for-auld-lange-syne.496244/) but the fact that his technique is still this caveman variety all these years later is troubling. I don't see his ceiling being much higher than bashing up the halfway-shot remnants of guys like Pokemón or shutting down green unready prospects like William Francisco "El Titán" Céspedes in his previous fight. Anybody with a pulse and half a brain cell is going to be a risk to befuddle & outbox him, if they can avoid or take his power (especially since he doesn't maximize it by connecting all that sharply).

Still, even if neither is going anywhere from here, it was a fun main event while it lasted on an otherwise pretty barren Friday night.

You see Apple having any upside, @Somachenko? I think he's about half what his brother Pablo was in his prime (which even then was only good enough to be a chewtoy for a lesser world titlist like Abraham) - extremely fortunate to still technically be hanging onto his zero after last night...and the fam dodged a bullet going 0-2-1 instead of 0-3. Even though I scored it a draw myself, if anybody was going to get the nod it would've/should've been JayJay Vargas.
