Bryan Robero Flores Favela vs. Hernán Leandro Carrizo, 10 rounds @ welterweight

 

Both men are coming off losses - Bryan "El Niño Maravilla" Flores to Lindolfo Delgado via SD in his third border crossing from Mexico into the US last August, and Argentinian southpaw Hernán "El Zurdo" Carrizo to Daud "Cino" Yordan via KO9 in an IBA super lightweight title bid a month later.

It looked as though Carrizo was diving in thinking he might clinch and got hit with a left hook, and backed away into the ropes looking at the ref thinking for some reason he was safe from attack, but Flores jumped on him and clubbed away until he crumbled. Sort of a "protect yourself at all times" scenario.

Daniel "El Dragón" Sánchez is a literal last minute sub. The original main event was supposed to be PCC vs. Luis Enrique Montelongo Morales in a welterweight ten-rounder.

Montelongo was coming in off a TKO2 loss to Carlos Ocampo this past February (a rematch, Ocampo had previously defeated Montelongo via UD in 2021).

Just like the co-main, both principals were coming off losses - Cano's was by unanimous 11th round technical decision after injuring his ankle versus Shakhram Giyasov in February of last year. Yes, he's fighting tonight off a 15 month layoff.

El Dragón is on a three loss skid. He is 12-10-1, nine kayos, never stopped.

 

PCC is bulling in, spamming uppercuts, tossing lots of punches. Sánchez is carrying his arms low, tossing jabs off the hip, playing matador and backing up with the occasional check hook or counter 1-2.

 

Cano punching like he wants to become the first to halt Sánchez.

 

A sustained body attack might be the way to go for Cano. Sánchez isn't loving that.

So, unclear whether "El Dragón" is actually teak-tough, or just shockingly good for a journeyman at defending against head shots.

Whenever he shoots upstairs Cano misses and gets flustered. If he kept plugging away on the midsection, though, I suspect there's a path to ending this...
