If Roach did not override this fight, win or lose for Pac, we should not have all these controversies. This was 2009, Pac accepted Shane's challenge. Moseley just beat Margarito previously. Nobody would say Shane is old and shot. http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content5028.html
"at a catch-weight" would of been 3 catch weight fights by now if he fought him back then. Now its just vs an old man.
If Mosley is not completely shot to **** then this IS a dangerous fight for Pacquiao. There i said it
this was right after pac-hatton. pac hasn't tested himself out yet at 147 so whether it was cotto or mosley, they were asking for a catchweight. pac would have gotten far worse from you haters had he picked shane over cotto at that time.
pac just signs the contract. He doesn't negotiate with the catchweights and gloves. That's his promoter's job..and recently. Freddie Roach.
if he fought mosley back then instead of cotto, then that will be the catchweight fight and not cotto. remember that he was coming from 140 that time and just weighed 138 in the hatton fight so asking for a catchweight is ideal for him.
the joyboys are the only people accusing pac of ducking mosley when he instead fought cotto. hardly a ducking since he fought an equally dangerous opponent at welter. and before this, pac has been known to want to fight margarito when margarito was the 147 champ and only roach has some hesitation because of the size difference.
He was untested at WW at the time and has fought most of his career under 135lbs. I'd say that's pretty ****ing ballsy. If Mayweather had.... Nevermind.
That has nothing to do with anything. You fought Oscar at 147, you should be able to fight anyone at 147. That is, unless you're looking for an advantage (i.e. weight draining your opponent).
its because if theyd ask OLDH to fight for 143lbs... then that would be asking for too much since ODLH came from 154... and the only way to get to the fight is 147... plain and simple.. its called leverage people would have bitched over pac if pac asked 143 for ODLH... asking mosley for 143 aint that bad actually since pac is new to the 140+.. again, its called leverage... if pac wanted to drain em too much, team pac could have asked 135 if they wanted to... but to make the fight, they wanted to meet halfway
Although you are confusing people who dislike pac, with those who do like floyd, the rest of your post is accurate. It was widely accepted that back then the top 5 welters where shane, floyd, pac, clottey, cotto. Both times pac fought the best available opponent in cotto and clottey. People shitting on the clottey fight are stupid imo, he was highly regarded at the time. Most peoples issue with pac comes from his next two fights, namely margo and shane. The problem is, neither have a significant win in over two years. Going into the pac fight their two year combined record reads 1-2-1. Hardly inspiring when the only victory was vs some journeyman in mexico. Pre margo you'd have to really nit pick at pac's resume to find problems, maybe the fights with larios and diaz but if that's the worst you can find it says a lot for how gone resume is. It seems to me he has decided upon a future of low risk high reward fights, and imo he has the skills to achieve even more than he already has. He'll go down as a great fighter no doubt, but the was his career is ending I would be surprised if he cracked the top ten and he has the attributes to do so.
