I just read one of the latest articles. It says their fight is going to be at a 145 catch weight, but it will still be for Cotto's belt.

I'm guessing this was a stipulation that Cotto's team had to make to fight Pac.

I guess if they accept it, it's fair enough.

But because it's at a catch weight, it almost seems like it would diminish Pac's victory if he wins.

Beating Cotto would still be quite an accomplishment, but seems weird for it to happen this way.

In the end Pac is still taking a calculated risk. He's even fighting two lbs than he said he would. Cotto is still a very dangerous fighter and this seems like a fair enough middle ground. Each fighter giving his opponent enough leeway to feel comfortable.

What does everyone think about the situation?
Have any other catch weight bouts resulted in relinquishing a title?

If its for Cotto's welterweight belt then it has to be fought at welterweight

Pac could be the world's first 145lb champion, and make the world's first defence against Floyd

The Welterweight limit is between 140.1 lbs and 147 lbs. An ABC title can be acquired at any weight within the limit.

There have been many fights at catchweights with the titles on the line.

thatr's ****ing stupid, if pac wants to claim a welterweight belt he should allow his opponent to fight within the weleter limits aka anything 147 and below not 145.

If Armstrong, Trinidad, Hopkins, and Oscar did it and I'm sure countless others. I bet Ali had a few catch weights under his belt. Pac can do it.

Like I said before. If Cotto's TEAM is taking it, they still think it's fair enough. Sure everyone wants to fight Pac, but they still want the chance to beat him.

PAC has no business fighting BIG guys but he's still up for the challenge, 2 lbs would be fair for the little guy i guess

Floyd came in and 150 to get a jr. middleweight title so I don't see a problem

Pac meets the Welterweight limit so its not an issue.

Well it's not so much Pac's weight. The issue I hear from others is the 145 limit it's placing on Cotto. It's forcing him down a bit more. Of course he can pack it on after the weigh in.

But if he started now and just maintained something like 146 to 147 and then dropped to 145. I think the limit would hardly have an effect on him.

If both parties agree and it's sanctioned by the governing body ( WBC? ), then it should be considered a title fight regardless of what us boxing fans think.

cotto weighed in @146 for the clottey fight. we're squabbling about 1 damn lb here!

on the other hand, pac hasn't weighed in more than 142 for a fight. he actually weighed in @138, 2 lbs. south of the lightwelter limit in his last fight. 144-145 is but fair considering cotto will balloon up to 160 for the fight while pac will be @148-149, a 10+ lb size/strength advantage for cotto.

Numerous title bouts have been at catchweights below the weight limit.

Why would this be any different?

I'd prefer it to be 147, but whatever, it doesn't bother me that much.

Cotto and his team say they'll be fine @ 145 and I'll just take them at their word.

That´s different, he didn´t ask Oscar to do the same, he just wasn´t any bigger than that. Oscar came in right at the limit of 154.
