SuzieQ recently had him number one. I mentioned all fighters that I have seen beeing ranked number one by people with some knowledge.

 

Oh i wasn't saying that about you personally. I saw that you initially said others had Pep up there, not yourself. I just wanted to make my own opinion on that known, that's all.

 

I think until the mid20s/early 30s there were adjustements to the new rules - I wouldn´t call it evolution either, it was a different sport before. 15 rounds, gloves and so on. From then on boxing didn´t change much. Recently, from the 80s onwards, the talent-pool dried out a bit, plus numerous belts, more weightclasses and 12 rounds, and thus less-good fighters made it to the top.

 

I agree. Some fighters that have had success are not of the level of some fighters who had success before, because of boxing politics etc. To be honest this has always happened simply due to the fact that the probability of every fighter to win a belt being a great fighter is zero. But anyway, on the technical side of things, there's no devolution, just that some of the fighters aren't as good. Some of them are. I don't why it's unpopular to rate Mayweather as great around here. Note i'm not saying he's in the same stratosphere as Ray Robinson, just that he's great and it's undeniable.

 

If finding the absolute worst fight of modern boxing and pasting all the worst moments of the said fight together while removing the telling moments isn't an act of pure desperation to defend you're favorite era, I don't know what is. How about we speed up Wlad 100% and not purposely remove all the punches thrown in his fight/fights if we're going to be fair

As for Greb, you're assuming he's mugging, but he's properly training at times to and he clearly isn't the most talented or technically most sound of all time.

It wasn't an attempt to show that the old timers were better, it was simply a joke video I created after someone claimed that Wladimir Klitschko was the greatest heavyweight of all time, which you don't get here but on another forum where I visit.

The bareknuckle boxers at the end were two random fighters of no note filmed in the early 1890's, obviously not on the level of Wladimir Klitschko or Sultan Ibragimov. Still did more fighting than our modern heavyweights.

The clips were taken from a single round by the way, I could've made it look even worse had I wanted to.

 

Much as the classic forum gets criticized for being "biased" for old timers, I'd say it's still better off than any of the general forums that I've been in.

He gets carried away by his own enthusiasm at times. He isn´t the only one though, I think quite a few of the people on here are high on a fighter when they "found" him. I´m certainly one of them

I do not rate Willie Pep # 1 all time anymore. I do, however, have him in my top 3.

Perhaps because you have limited knowledge on the featherweight era of the 1940s? Name me a fighter who dominated an ENTIRE DECADE long of Champions/RING magazine top 10 contenders in one weight class? That's exactly what Willie Pep did. Dominance/Longevity/Quality..it's all there. Defeated 3 ATG's. One of them being one of the single greatest wins of all time. Started out 134-1. Combine that with the fact he is one of the if not THE most skilled fighters ever on film..and you have your man.
