Both of these guys got accused of picking easy fights but they fought everyone, even the klitschko brothers did. It just hit me that boxers like Wilder, Fury, Joshua, Crawford and Brook are already past their 30s and ready for retirement and did not fight the people they were expected to.

Floyd and Manny will always be underrated as their rivalry caused a lot of their fans to completely hate the other guy.

Floyd and Pac avoided each other but they were big enough and there were enough other credible opponents for them to let their fight marinate.

Boxers and promoters have somehow reached the conclusion that you have to let all big fights marinate, it just doesn't work like that. Floyd and Pac was a special case

They didn't fight everybody, and the ones they did they didn't fight in a timely manner. The Maypac fight was postponed so long as to be irrelevant. May swerved Tszyu, Morales, Bradley, Brook, Khan, Porter, Crawford, and Spence. Pac missed out on Brook, Khan, Porter, Crawford, and Spence. Modern fighters are unambitious embarrassments but don't let the old legends off the hook that easy. They took their tomato can Rios, Algieries, Horns, Gerreros, Ortiz, and Bertos.

Absolutely true. That's a once in an era situation. That's why 147 is falling into obscurity. I'm just glad HW is back. I hope they keep mixing up.

True, for the most part they fought everybody.

Although there are occasional morons who would argue otherwise...

I really discounted a lot of Floyd's career because I was disappointed every time his next fight was announced and it wasn't Pac. I spent a good 10 years in that pattern (or more?) and I sincerely regret it.

Floyd said it himself that we'd miss him when he was gone, and it's true. None of the recent WW champs really measure up to his legacy.

Some of these "tomato cans" were fights taken way out of their prime and/or coming back from a loss. And honestly even the Berto Floyd fought would be a nice addition to Crawford's WW resume. Floyd had a pretty good stretch of 20 something quality opponents. I think Pac mixed a goofball or two in but there was a lot of quality as well.

They did miss a few here and there, but it's a reach to criticize them for not fighting Spence when they were pushing 40.

Floyd vs Bradley would have been cool though.

And here I am not missing him at all. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't watched him fight since Canelo in 2013. I have watched his exhibitions against the Irish guy and the Japanese kickboxer. McGregor, that's his name. But after 2013 I realized that I'd never enjoyed even one of his fights and I'd watched seventeen or eighteen of them just to have an accurate reading on a potential opponent for my favorite fighter. I really hated him as a person and wished that he'd be crippled in a car accident or stricken blind somehow. No, I don't miss him at all. I wish he'd stop tweeting or holding these farcical pay per views of his. He was never anything but a cancer on the sport.

As much contempt as I have for boxers like Crawford who squander their opportunities and waste whole careers I don't hate him like I hate Mayweather. Now Manny I have nothing but love for. I'll miss him. He wasn't all talk. He was calling for a Spence fight at 43 years old, which is what you ought to do if you claim you are the best boxer ever and get paid 20 million a fight to prove it.

That’s because it was easy to criticize when they were active about what they wasn’t doing.. But just like Lennox Lewis you quickly appreciate them when you see what comes after them..

Example at one point Bud Crawford and Lomachenko was #1 P4P and this is no knock on them.. Niether guy at 30+ still hadn’t had 1 signature win but the journalist were tryna tell us they were the cream of the crop..

At 21 Floyd had dethroned long time undefeated at SFW king in Genaro Hernandez, 23 annihilated P4P #5 Diego Corrales and at 25 dethroned the LW King in JLC.

PAC became champ at 19, Crushed Ledwaba at 22, defeated MAB 25. These guys today don’t even challenge themselves until 30 years old.

    Floyd fought everyone? Really?

Margarito, Paul Williams, Tszyu, fought Cotto when he was well past prime.
......and waited till Pacquiao got KTFO by Marquez before he even considered that fight.
Fought everyone? I dont think so.

I will never forget Wladimir Klitschko's barn burners against the likes of Brock, Mormeck, Haye, Pianeta, Thompson, Ibragimov, Leapai etc.

Such an amazing era full of legends!

    True.

Plus with May and Pac they were both skilled enough to overcome their opponents and remain the top of their division so it's easier to marinate.

With the HWs all it takes a less fighter with a bigger punch to turn your lights out and years of momentum is suddenly halted. Look at Dillian Whyte vs Povetkin for example.

Floyd only fought when he had almost zero doubt he could win and have everything stacked in his favour.
A lot of smoke and mirrors to protect his biggest marketingtool the 0.
His loud mouth ignorent villain act got boring quickly only for him to potshot to another safe decision.

Oh come on.. Nostalgia lens again.. Floyd was a master cherrypicking card stacker second only to that ginger roid head. His best wins are against Castillo with the first having asterisks.

He drained the life out of weight bully Canelo. He dragged Hatton up to 147, beat a 36 yo Pacquiao (whose best win postfloyd was rusty Thurman), beat old and aged Mosley, OLDH and lightweight JMM.

So called boxing fans aren't actually fans of boxing but the hype and narrative their fed. Mayweathers career is manufactured top to bottom.

Don't get me started on Vitalis mediocre resume and Wlads career (two best names Haye and Povetkin should have been DQ losses, embarassing "tactics")
