The response to these articles always shows how dumb boxing fans are.

If the names were reversed and Mayweather went on ESPN tomorrow saying the Pac fight will never happen because Pac is hard to negotiate with, we'd have a 50 page thread denouncing Floyd for ducking Pac. When it is the other way around, everybody of course blames Mayweather, when all he has done is maintained the same stance as Pac on the split of the purse. Haters gonna hate.

Either way, the Pac fight is only meaningful for the money for Floyd. If Pac pusses out, which would be no surprise, Floyd will just fight Mosley. Mosley will fight Mayweather over Pac any day of the week, so Floyd is in a win-win.

its just setting up the table for negotiations. People should realise that by now.

Its definately gonna be hard to make the fight. Pac wants more money, Floyd wants more money. And an even bigger issue is that Floyd is a welterweight while Pac is still a lightweight fighting in higher divisions.

Your point is meaningless. Pac is the favorite because he is an amazing LW fighting a good WW, not because he is a fully fledged WW. Pac is still a more difficult opponent at 135 and 140 than at 147.

Don't forget in his last fight he weighed in at 138.

How is it meaningless if he beats Cotto at 145?

You stated that weight would be an issue with floyd v Pac, yet pac would have fought twice now at welterweight. Where is the problem?

Of course Oscar/Pac and Oscar/Floyd were both promoted very well (with the edge going to Oscar/Floyd). But Oscar was by far the massive draw in both fights. Floyd already had some mainstream exposure going into that fight, while Pacquiao had much less, thus people were more likely to buy the former fight. That's why you can't compare Floyd and Pac's draws against JMM, because Floyd was a bonafide mainstream athlete by the time he went against JMM, while Pac had yet to enjoy any benefit of fighting Oscar when he fought JMM the second time.

And you can't deny that the numbers a fight PPV generates heavily involves how much is invested into promotion. Let's say that Tecate doesn't have the beer deal going on, no fight showings in theaters, Floyd doesn't promote the fight over PPV, etc., and all there was in terms of selling the fight was the 24/7. Do you think the PPV would have done as well as it did? You know that the 1 million buyrate HAD to include casual sports fans that normally don't follow boxing, and typically they won't bite unless a fight is hyped with a lot of effort.

You make a few good points but you fail on one important point.

when pac fought marquez both times no one thought it was a mismatch and was a fight the fans wanted to see, especially the 2nd time. It even did a record for ppv numbers at lower weight classes.

Now when mayweather fought marquez this way a fight most people didnt want to see and was seen as a tune up fight, a fight which marquez could not win. Marquez has never fought at 147 either. Not to mention the styles make fights issue.

So how did this fight do 1 mill ppv buys. Mayweather is a bigger draw than pac.

If Marquez v Pac happened next year could you honestly see it doing 1m ppv buys:bart

It is all mind games...... Arum used to be Mayweather's promoter for 10 years (1886-2996) and so he knows how May thinks.

In the end of the day, Arum is still a businessman and whatever is the biggest money out there will happen. It is too early to be actually talikng of PBF-Pac fight as there is still Cotto-pac fight.

People just have so many extra time in their lives to read something that is not even there. Where in the hell does it ssay ducking. It does not take a genius to even interpret what they are saying..... The fight is hard to negotiate,,, period. It might happen, who knowsas it is too early to be even talikng much less negotiatibng for the fight.
