Cotto is the only one to catch him with decent shots since moving up and he was never a big puncher anyway.

First off you need to disassociate cutting weight with "tall fighters." Short fighters cut weight too. In fact Pac was cutting serious weight (10-15 pounds) to make 130. Therefore it is likely that the absence of weight cutting HAS helped Pac improve on his punch resistance.

Another factor is that Pac's style has changed as hes been moving up. He no longer jumps into shots and his balance has greatly improved. Both could be considered factors in his improved punch resistence.

Also the weight discrepancy between a middleweight and a heavyweight (40+ pounds) is far more significant compared to that of a superfeatherwight and a welterweight (17 pounds).

Well he hasn't been getting hit flush that much since he moved up like when he was fighting at lower weights. Cotto is the only guy that have hit him clean, but
remember that Cotto doesn't have 1 punch ko power, and I remember that Pac said in an interview that some of Cotto's punches did hurt him a bit.

I've thought about this also, and have one possibility. Marquez, Barrera and Morales all have much better handspeed than the bigger guys (Cotto, old DLH). Possibly Pac was getting hit with shots he didn't see coming from the smaller guys because of the speed and this is what would hurt him. With the bigger guys he sees the shots coming because they have slower hand speed and he is able to brace for the shots.

Marquez and Morales also hit Pacquiao a lot more than Cotto did. Also, considering that Cotto didn't land all that many punches (91 power punches, the rest jabs), Pacquiao STILL looked like he went through hell after that fight (busted eardrum and hand, welts all over his face).

His chin hasn't been tested by the same calibre of fighters at 147. If he fought Mosley we'd find out a lot.

    :huh This is very ill-informed.

    Morales never hurt him ever.

    Barrera never hurt him ever.

Marquez wobbled him once in 24 rounds, but couldn't put him down even once. Marquez showed he has serious power by then becoming the 1st man to stop Casamayor and Diaz at 135.

Marquez lost a hell of a lot of his speed, power and explosiveness by fattening up to come in at 142 for the Mayweather fight, that much was blindingly obvious. JMM is a natural featherweight who was not even big for a lightweight, and he looked clearly overweight vs Floyd.

Pac proved to have superb punch resistance at the lower weights, and now he is showing it at higher weights as well.

Myth dispelled and class dismissed. :hi:

Casa was a completely shot fighter.

Hoya didn't touch him. Hatton landed some glancing punches. Cotto is the only one to land something on him but he doesn't throw his punches like he used to when he was making guys crumble.

    What!?

Are you serious? The kid had one of the best chins in boxing for a while.
Campbell hit him with alot of shots and he never went down. Katisidis hit him with everything he never went down.

JMM just happened to be the one that cracked that chin. Its obvious now that PM was able to hurt him that his chin has been cracked but that kid would take huge shots and not even flinch.
