Watched this last night. He looked good. Liked that double-jab. His movement at times reminded me somewhat of 96 Golota.
Yeah, I saw that. My first look at Gvozdyk. He's the goods. But damn, what kind of weight must he be cutting. That dude is a full sized cruiser fighting at lightheavy. He's big enough to fight at heavy with few problems. No wonder he knocked Mohammedi out cold. I can't wait to see Gvozdyk fight other top lightheavyweights. I've been saying that Kovalev could handle a cruiser like Lebedev. Now, we might get a chance to find out. Light heavyweight is getting hot.
I figured you'd like him, I think I know your tastes just well enough to know who'd impress you. I've done a ridiculous amount of threads, but there's a reason he and Usyk were two of the first threads I did, Gvozdyk would have been the second..... the only reason I waited a few days for the Gvozdyk thread was because I didn't want the two Oleksandr's to cancel each other out. I like Barrera but he has nothing even close to the overall skillset of Gvozdyk, I've also fully believed for a few years now Gvozdyk had more potential as a pro than even Beterbiev. Stylistically aside from Kovalev in terms of speed, footwork, jab, inside game, accuracy and just being a huge, I think he presents the biggest threat to Ward of any of the Light Heavies.
Here he is beating an actual Heavyweight who's around 6'5 from one side of the ring to another with thick padded WSB gloves on, this guy Subacius has an amateur win over Szpilka. He has him on the verge of a stoppage a few times in the last 2 rounds. Watch the slo-mo replays between rounds, he's even more impressive in slo-mo.:yep [yt]ukq1HJoFfu4[/yt]
I usually like guys who work behind a solid jab, but I also like guys who are crafty and versatile to some extent (in the mold of Hopkins, Ward, and Carlos Molina). He looks good. Will be interesting to see how he progresses. Glad I watched that, because if I ever do an episode on him I'm pretty sure I can pronounce his name properly. Unless this is a new instance of the Rignodeaux pronunciation. :smoke
Glad you like what you saw.:good As far as the pronunciation goes Col. Bob is a little off, go with the Russian announcers pronunciation at 1:40 of the Subacius vid, Bob is making it a little bit more complicated than it needs to be.
You know CST, i'm starting to think you actually like Gvozdyk MUCH more than Usyk....it's a scary scary thought.
Sorry I'm going to go barf. :-( It seems you are losing love for Usyk. I guess I'm alone now, again. atsch
No not at all, I love Usyk dearly. He just hasn't fought in almost 5 months, and Gvozdyk just beheaded Iron Nads, what I'm not allowed to float on air about that for a few days. When Usyk fights again, I'll get right back to hyping him.:deal
