Have you even been to Ghana? Either way, I think it will hit around the 550 - 600K mark taking Margo's return into consideration.
$600k+ I'll honestly be shocked if it's ANYTHING less. Clottey didn't look bad losing to Cotto and the videos of that fight are all over Youtube for ones that want to see it.
How did the return of El Cheato, Margarito, suddenly become a Tyson-out-of-prison type of deal? If anything, it just adds another black eye to boxing and draws more negative attention to this fight.
I don't think anyone's praising Margarito coming back, but the Mexican's will love him no matter what. He could have had dead set cement and they would still worship! Rightly/wrongly, boxing people will follow his return for the 'what-if' factor. Arum will put a 3rd fight on that's considered 'quality' to help ensure numbers. Probably Soto defending his title wouldn't it?
Hard to judge. So I'd make my estimate quite a wide range. Anything from 500K to a mil. I think it'll probably do less than Dela Hoya, Hatton and Cotto. All 3 of them are MUCH biggest names than Clottey to the average joe blow.
500k max, i usually don't mind throwing down some cash to watch mayweather or pac fight, but this fight is BS, not worth my time. i might catch a stream, but that's about it. not worth a damn cent. this **** should be on HBO.
This. Though I think it would be hard for the event to go past the 800k mark, unless they fill the undercard w/ quality matches and an extensive marketing campaign. Clottey, though a legit top 5 welter, isn't really well known to the casual fan.
I'm a Ghanaian living in Ghana. I take that as an insult.:fire We are not very rich in fiscal terms but we are rich in a lot of other things. Culture, environment, resources, humanity, friendliness. That said we do have televisions in Ghana. You'd be surprised about some of technology and gadgets in Ghana. The world is a global village, right?
550-650k Respectable numbers I guess. Top Rank should actually put on a good undercard if they want to boost numbers.
Boxing is not as popular as soccer nowadays in Ghana. In the days of Azumah Nelson, boxing was much much bigger. The whole country stood still when he fought, much like Pac with the Phillipines. Currently Joshua is one of the most recognisable sports personalities in the country but boxing is not mainstream so he's not as as popular as soccer stars. Also he needs to be consistent at the top for a longer time as Azumah and Ike Quartey (to some extent, world champion for a 3 years?) was, to become a super star. He is really well known among sports fans though. He doesn't yet have the full crossover appeal that Ike Quartey or the super star status that Azumah has but the Pac fight can take him there if he performs creditably. He'll become a super star if he wins. We don't have a lot of world class boxers now so he's one of our main hopes. He is currently the sportsman of the year (he won for 2009)
