Well why even offer to fight at 145 lbs?

Theorically the fight could be at 145 and still be a titlematch, but just like Pac is the bigger draw, the p4p champ, etc. Cotto is actually the WW Champ, so in this scenario specifically Cotto is the one that has the final say in it. I guess this just eats up the *******s on the inside, but it's the truth.

 

Pac actually offered 143lbs and Cotto at 145lbs. The weight doesnt seem to be the problem here. Its the belt not being included because they're not allowed to reach 147lbs. Cotto shouldn't have entered the negotiations if he didnt plan on staking the belt. Pac would have looked for another champion who's willing.

True, especially now that Pac has a chance of holding a new record, it is really pointless to come up to WW without a title at stake. Pac has other options if this happens and will be looking for other champs willing to fight at a catchweight with their belts on the line.

 

It will have great significance this time, and that paper title (if Pac wins) will be one of the most famous belts won.

 

If you want to be called a WW champion, fight at the WW limit which is 147. Simple as that.

Before someone comes in here and says 145 is between 141 an 147. If you think about it, a genuine WW championship allows to be up 147 at the weigh in. It becomes something diff. if you can only go up to 145.

 

exactly. But then again, there's an option that fighters can agree to fight at a certain weight, hence a catchweight. Not a new thing in boxing, and title fights were held in catchweight, which were recognized by official organizatons.
