As much as we're ALL clamoring for and salivating over the looming potential showdown between boxing's pound for pound kings, it may be a bit premature for BOTH fighters. I want to see PAC/PBF as much as the next guy. But think about the ramifications of that fight should it be held within the next 6 months or so. Each man is the other's contemporary and ultimate rival. For each man it seems that a victory over the other is what stands between them and ATG status.

I would love to see the following transpire to cement each man's legacy and assist in building up what could one day be "The Fight of the Century".

2 more fights for each fighter
    Pacquiao vs. Marquez III
    Pacquiao vs. Mosley

    Mayweather vs. Williams
    Mayweather vs. Margarito

This will serve to showcase the 2 combatants and assuming each pass their respective tests then we will be witnessing the single largest event in the history of our sport. An inevitable showdown of 2 pound for pound legends in front of more than 70,000 people in a high profile outdoor stadium (wish it could be Yankee Stadium!).

I know, nobody wants to wait until late 2010, early 2011 to see this happen. But in the long run, I think it would do more for the legacy of both fighters than it would to stage this fight right now and let the quality of fights drop off as the fighters fade off into the sunset. Ideally, 3 more KO wins for Pacquiao and let him retire in the good company of Ali & Robinson!

    Go ahead, have at me!

He'd probably retire if he beat Mayweather, unless a rematch was called for.

If he beats Mayweather, there is always Mosely and Berto. If he wins both those fights, there is Paul Williams who has said he's open for a fight. Mayweather/Pac would be the biggest seller but real boxing fans would still be excited to see either Pac or PBF fight Mosely or Williams.

The only other fight would be against Mosley, or if somehow JMM bounces back with a gigantic win.

Other than that, he'd have cemented himself as the greatest of this generation, and up there with SRR.

I don't know, but Pacquiao-Marquez III has lost its luster for me. I say bring on Paul Williams. He wants his old belt back :yep

Them fights you have mentioned are high risk low reward fights for Floyd , added to that Manny Mosley mmmm , very risky .

Fact is this Floyd and Manny are ready to go now , Mosley is an option for the winner , if its Pac as Void will duck him and probably retire after a Manny fight should he win .

This fights needs to happen now and we can pick up the peices once its done , making huge fights is all about timing , and the timing right now couldnt be better !!!!!!!

I don't think you can call this fight "premature". Both are at the pinnacle like never before. Sure, theoretically it would be nice to see them each get three or four more consecutive wins, but by then they are years older, a bit slower, less peaked.... No, the time is NOW.

What are you talking about? There is simply no way either man isn't ALREADY an ATG. What the hell...?

I disagree. If Pac beats PBF in the biggest fight in decades, he will become a larger than life icon. He could fight Yuri Foreman after, advertise it as making history and draw 2mil buys, the way Tyson did with McNeely! Should Pac win, it will boost his popularity 10fold the way Oscar did for him in their fight.

    1. Marquez! Did you see his last fight. No one cares about JMM anymore. He's old, and not on the same level. Yes he gave up a good fight with Pac twice, but there is no demand to see him ever again. He can drink his urine in retirement.

    2. Pac vs Mosely would be cool.

    3. Williams will beat Mayweather and derail a fight with Pac. PW is a giangatic freak of nature with an insane workrate, there's no wonder that Mayweather NEVER mentions his name (or anyone else for that matter)

    4. Margarito will need massive image repair before he is thrust into a big fight. No one wants to see a cheater get a big pay day.

PAc vs Mayweather indeed should happen now.

If he beats Floyd he should either retire or move back down to 140 and rule there before he retires.
